This thing is a cop magnet...
So, I haven't really been posting much since I got my stang, but couldn't help but post this. So last friday I got pulled over just after pulling away from a toll for doing 71 in a 60 zone, the cop let me off with a ticked for not having proof of insurance. I was thrilled with this, as all you have to do in Florida is submit a copy of your proof of insurance along with a $7.50 processing fee to get it all taken care of. So then tonight after leaving starbucks, on a caffein high, I was tearing down a two lane divided highway, it has a few curves in it, tons of fun. The speed limit is 45 mph thru there, which I wasn't aware of... I was going 70, and a cop was apparently having a good time following me thru this stretch. So after I turned off that road, he saw me change two lanes with not enough of a pause in between them, and pulled me over right after that. So after him telling me about all he had seen, and him asking me how many speeding tickets I had had (which is 0) he asked for my license, registration, and proof of insurance... Well me, being stupid as I am, had never stuck my proof of insurance in my car after I mailed in the copy! So I told him about my run in just 6 days before and that I had been pulled over for speeding. After a while he came back and only gave me a ticked for the proof of insurance thing! It's a $76 ticket, which I can't just do the mail in and prove thing with since I just did it last week, but heck, I'm thrilled I didn't get a speeding ticket or unlawful changing of lanes! I find it best to be really respectful of the cops and they respect you. He chided me saying I should take my GT back to the dealership and get a Gio or something... I am just taking this as a wake up call and won't be doing anything like that anytime soon. Just thought I would let you guys know of my recent encounter! sorry for it being so long.

Why yes, yes it is... I used to drive 70-80 on 40-45 zones all the time on my old car, never was stopped, hell, I never saw a cop. I even went through the highway going 95+ the whole trip and the speed limit was 65mph, not a cop in sight, hell even got to 100+ a few times. Used that car for little over a year, not one ticket, except for a $15 parking infraction.
So now I got my 'stang and have been pulled over twice in 6 months. One was because I missed a shift, and when I engaged chirped second ( I was still learning manual at the time) Got 100 in impropper acceleration of the engine, and 50 for making sounds with my tires. I was going 30-35 on a 40 zone. Second time, last week to be exact I was stopped due to tints, that I had for 6 months and was never stopped. Fast looking cars = Cop magnets sadly... thats why I'm gonna make my old car a sleeper once I get cash (97 Toyota Avalon). |

I wouldn't call it a cop magnet if I'm disobeying the laws. That's drawing attention to your own self. Not really a magnet type deal there.
I keep getting thumbs up from our local cops, my car is full of infractions too. Can't have tint here, can't have a tinted license plate cover, and must have a properly displayed front plate. Yet the only pull over I have gotten is and I quote "I just pulled you over because I had to see this car up close". That was one of them things I wish I had on tape. |

Sadly, I've done nothing illegal aside from my little mishap from 1rst to 2nd.
I chirped tires in front of cops (accidentally on a tuning lane and was drizzled a bit) on my old car... nothing, zilch, nada... I miss those days... I drive overly cutious now and get pulled over a lot more... thats... thats just not right. |

You arnt kidding man. I have cops follow me for blocks till I leave their juristiction. The local cops are starting to know me because well...the slp loudmouths kind of set you apart haha.
Ive got a story for you though. So I was cruisin home around 3pm so all the schools just got out. Some kid in a BMW flys by me and hits a red light so i pull up into the right hand turn only lane to check out his awsome gold checkered flag paint job on the side haha. So at the light a bunch of kids to the right of me start getting excited and are yelling "their gonna race" and " race, race, race ..." so i didnt want to let them down the light turns green and I slam the throatle. BMW was in my rearview mirror by the time I hit second and at the same time I hear the siren. I make a right (thank god i was in that lane) and book it down the street running a couple stop signs on the way making as many turns as i can. So i pull over after a couple streets and realise what i just did haha...so i got lucky....stupid mistake though. I get away but being such a punk i want to go back to see if the other guy got pulled over. So im up about 4 blocks and with my luck the cops are at a house talking to a lady and i see them look at me and one says...hey isnt that the guy. So i cruise by trying to stay calm and i see them behind me run to the car a jump in. I pull into a gas station and they pull in and yell at me asking why i was racing. I pulled the i just got out of lunch with my boss and that i was nowhere near where they accused me of being. After a stare down i tell them how good of a job they have been doing cleaning up the neighborhood and they start talking all happy about how it is finaly getting better....then they say be safe and drive off.... it always works to kiss some ass ![]() lessons learned: - never run from the cops - when racing, check for cops - when running from cops all of a sudden you become a pro drifter (ok so maybe sliding around the corners wasnt on purpose) - mustangs FTW

unlawful changing of lanes = careless driving. thats how we register it here in jersey. I'm a police officer by the way. its not necessarily the car that is what you call a "cop magnet." its the things you do to a car that can be considered a magnet (drving fast, weaving, loud obnoxious exhaust, screeching tires, etc.)
example like his story. i was driving with my sgt in the squad car last week and a rare lime green color lotus was driving around town, beautiful car by. yea we were checking it driving behind him out in amazement cause you rarely see these cars on the road. but up ahead you saw a acura RSX with one of them loud mufflers on the car weaving in and out of lanes like fast and the furious style. as we were going to get that RSX we gave the guy in the lotus the thumbs up, cause we liked the car. we nailed the RSX for speeding and careless drivng. but in that case when your "tearing up the streets" as you said, thats probable cause to pull you over, because of the way you were driving. but he did give you a break by giving you a ticket for failure to present documents. |

Yes, these things are cop magnets. If 2 cars a speeding one a new mustang and the other a Chevy Aveo, he will pull over the mustang... It will always be that way
I get alot of stares and thumbs up from my car here in town but at the same time everytime I see a cop he is pointing his radar gun at me just hopeing that I am speeding so he can pull me over... who could resist???

I've been lucky in my Stang so far, touch wood. I try not to speed to much in town, and when I let it out on the highway, I only do it for a quick burst. In the year I've been in the car, I've only had two cops give me the evil eye, and one was my fault. I launched the car sideways from a main drag on to a little side street in an industrial area, and as luck would have it, there was a cop sitting on said side street about five cars back. He gave me a dirty look, but never came after me.
And just this morning at about 2 am as I was on my way home from work, I was rolling in to a 35 zone, doing the limit, thankfully, when a provincial cruiser (like your state cops) going the other way, flipped around and raced up behind me. He stayed behind me for about 3 miles, and then flipped around and split. Maybe he punched in the plate & saw I was old, so he decided not to bother me. lol I think the Stang definitely draws more attention, but as Emay said, usually it's the driving that draws heat, not the ride. I do think that younger guys get their balls busted more than us old guys, just out of pure stereotyping. |
