Opinions

This may seem like a boreing question which is asked often but I'll ask it again anyway. At work, 2 guys in the last month have been in car accidents. Both were hit by ( amazing, Im not going to say drunk drivers) drivers talking on cell phones. In fact, when I was hit from behind at a stop light last June, the last thing I seen was a dude driving the truck with sunglasses on and a cell phone to his ear. I know from experience that cell phones can be distracting especially in heavy and aggresive traffic. I admit to answering calls on the road when its my kids or something but I do refrain from carrying on pointless conversation that can wait.

Do you think they should enforce a no cell phone while driving law? Im wondering if insurance companies will ever start dropping drivers that were"chatting" during an accident that was their fault.

I have a bluetooth earpiece that I wear when I'm driving. It is a must if you have a manual.

it'll virtually never happen. Its impossible to stop cell phone usage. The only way i could see it is if they are in an accident.. thats about it.

See, that seems smart to me if you HAVE to use it. But do you think the distraction of conversation put you at more of a risk ?????

I was just thinking. Everytime we turn around Insurance companies are finding a way to bend us over. Yet alot of the wrecks Ive been hearing about have been related to cell phone use. It seems like they might start really trying to "penalize" drivers that were proved to be on the phone during an accident. When they get in wrecks itgives the insurance companies legitimate reason to raise my rates right? I guess Im just wondering why laws and insurance have been so tolerant of it.

im pretty sure it does. Think of it this way, you get a call and you concentrate more on what the person is saying more then what you are paying attention to the road. Unless your amazing at multitasking (like me, which i only use if family calls) its still to risky

OK, so Im going to say something thats going to really piss someone off. I dont mean offense , its just an observation.

I notice more women and young girls driving and talking. Doing 40 in the passing lane on the highway or just cruising along in their own little world. Most arent even afraid to admit it.

I will oppose a no cell phone while driving law to my death. I work for a living, I drive for a living. Sometimes I receive calls while I'm driving, sometimes I make calls while driving. 99% of them are important and related to my next job.

You cannot tell people what to do. I've been talking on my phone while driving for years. I know I can't multitask so if it's heavy traffic I pay 100% attention to the road and if that breaks me up in mid sentence then so be it. I can't afford to get into an accident in my own car or in my work vehicle, yet I can't afford to stop and let the truck idle everytime I get a call.

People just need to learn to be responsible and fucking pay attention. It's not my fault their fucking idiots and can't do a simple task like talk and drive. Should we ban blondes from walking while chewing gum? That's just as ludicrus.

You wanna penalize the idiots for doing this? Go for it, but a law for a careful driver to be denied the ability to talk and drive at the same time is stupid.

SI! Hows the Honda doing? Im sorry Dude, you know I got nothing but respect for you. You have great insight on some of these things..

I rely heavily on phone use too. Im in a shitty outside sales position but, it supports me and my family pretty well. I also rely heavily on getting to my accounts that a sometimes hours away in my Mustang. YES, I do use my cell phone in the boonies (when I got a tower). I see myself as someone with above average hand eye coordination but I still respect the fact that I could make a mistake or maybe not be able to react to someone elses stupididy quick enough. Again, I realize and am honest with my limitations so thats why I have voice mail. Some people just shouldnt be doing it though. They think they have the skill to handle it anytime and they dont. The accidents are proof.

South park sucks... it was funny for the first two years, then it just got boring.

Anyway, the Si is fine. and I'm still accident free since 1999. Had a cell phone since 2000.

OMG! Guess.... wait, my wife just walked by and said South Park sucks too.... (bitch)... anyway I was going to say you've been on crack since 2000 too???

Ya, I'll give you the fact that Matt and Trey are running out of creative ideas that work but, there have been a few episodes worth watching. I still tivo when they are running new episodes. Back in the day of "cutouts" it was a bit better.

if talking on the phone while driving would be illegal, having people in the car with you should be illegal too.
Talking to someone who is right next to you is actually more distracting than talking on the phone, because they are right there, you might look at them and interact physically with them, while the level of concentration for talking remains the same in both situations.

I guess the thing is though that when you have someone in there with you, they can just see if it's really congested or if it's just a bad time to talk because of traffic or whatever. someone on the phone will just keep talking...so in that sense, cell phones are worse. but still, just talking to someone in the car with you can be just as bad, especially if you have a group of people in the car with you. a cellphone can only have one person on it...

Okay I am not reading this whole thing, but in CA starting yesterday if you are caught driving with a cell phone in your ear ( blue tooth head sets are excepted) you get some redicious ticket like 700 bucks! It has been proven fact that the cell phones are as bad as being drunk at the wheel! I learned that in driving school!
