Went to the dyno today......

I am not impressed with the numbers the car put down. Power is down quite a bit from last year and to add to it I have a more efficient drivetrain in this car and a better intake. I have a strong feeling the valve springs might be getting week. I'll have to check them in the next couple days. Looking at the graph is very scary. There isn't a straight line anywhere. Peaks and valleys. First pull was 509 hp at 6900 rpm and 417 ft lbs of torque. That was the baseline and we couldn't get any more horsepower out of it. I jetted up because it was pretty lean on the first pull but the gain was minimal. I added timing and removed timing but it ran the best at 34 degrees where I originally had it. I also tried a carb spacer and that didn't make a difference either. So I must be pretty good at what I do.

That is what everyone says but my car is really efficient. Too often people focus on horsepower and not getting the entire car to work.
Bob Kurgan ran 9.74 at 142 with 474hp at the wheels in a 3400 pound car a few years back.

Who cares how much power a racer puts down when he is running numbers like yours. I'm impressed with the way your car runs with that amount of power.

That's really insane to run 9's with just 500rwhp... car's got to be setup right with a good driver. Really impressive.

I've always been of the mindset that a car w/ a high stall converter will always disappoint you on the dyno. I have never seen one that would throw out #'s consistent w/ what you got. A timeslip and a veh weight will be the most accurate.

That's true, I forgot about that. I've seen stick and automatic blown 4.6's with the same mods show 80 rwhp differences on the dyno.

That's about right. A manual transmission robs between 5-10% less horsepower than an automatic.

I checked the valve springs today and they are all at least 100psi less seat pressure than what they originally had. I can't believe the son of a bitch made as much power as it did. I ordered new springs so hopefully the car will run like a rabid dog now.
