The calling it a sport part I don't agree with. I'm an avid deer hunter, and I won't even call that a sport. I kill deer for meat. I don't keep any of the heads or hides as trophys.

Killing a seal for its hides... I don't see a problem with it. If it's something that someone somewhere wants to buy legally, and there are taxes paid on it, then let it be. Just like when we go to the local BK or Mc D's or whatever it is that you all hit up for a burger. The cow is defensless when it's head gets sawed off... What's the difference? It's just that they aren't showing you the pictures of the cows head lying on the ground seperated from the rest of the carcass. Or how about when you jump in your stang (for those of you with leather seats) do you think about the animals carcass lying there stripped of its skins? Hell, if there were seal meat for sale in my area I'd probably eat some of that too...

There are lots of products that are used in todays societies that come from seals... Oils, hides, meat... I'm sure there are more I just didn't look hard enough for them.

It's one of the perks of being at the top of the food chain.

Well if they aren't using the hides and meats then I agree with the beat the hell out of these "sportsmen" thinking that is probably circulating throughout this thread. Not really for the sake of the seals... More for the sake of why waste something like that?????? There's a lot of items that can be made and sold. If they aren't going to do it, then let another person who can turn a profit off of this or benefit from it in some way do this.

ok im going to throw some $hit in the fan for yall cause i watched about 2 hours of msnbc where they were talking about beating seals but its a way of life for those people its pretty much the only income the people up north get every year and its by selling seal pelts even i do not agree with it but i understand completely if it becomes between my kids starving or killing some seals with a baseball bat you can call me mickey mantle..........but at the end of the pics unless if its going to help the human race a WHOLE LOT i don't think there should be animal testing and dog fighting is just really dumb.......... an as for PETA i think they are a bunch of tree hugging hippies who all need to get roughed up a lil and i proudly serve foie gras on my menu

Most of you know that I am in a RN program...a few semesters ago I walked into A&P II and my teacher handed me a frozen cat...to dissect! WTF...who the F* is passing laws where we are able to dissect domestic animals in an undergraduate program????? So I felt bad, went out and adopted a kitty

As for the group they are the biggest bunch of idiots besides congress there is (hides). Anyway i understand that it might come down to killing some seals to feed your kids, but im sure they can find a little more humane way of doing it. From the looks of it they dont exactly run from people so hell put a bullet in their head from close range they wont feel a thing. dog fighting should be a class a felony period. the utter abuse and mis-treatment of defensless animals makes me sick. thats just one of the many crimes i belive the american government should institute an eye-for-an eye laws

+1on this one. I'm a hunter too, and if your using it then more power to ya.

And all the seals I saw beat up had their skins gone. I do beleive thats a waste. At least eat the dang thing.
