Home Telephone Bills...WTF!

Has anyone ever read through the fees and charges on your home telephone bill, (not wireless) thats another story.

I have Verizon home service here, not by choice, but its the only provider available in my rural area. There are a couple of fees on the bill that I can't quite understand: I get a "shortfall" charge when I don't spend enough money on long distance calls?!? The one that really kills me is the "Federal Universal Service Fee" and the "State Universal Service Fund". Both of these are charged monthly and the money is designed to fund programs to keep my telephone rates affordable.

*Sunday morning rant*

Unbelievable. They can just do whatever they want. Our govt up here is no different.

Next think you will be seeing a "Federal User Communication Knowledge You Only Usurp" charge.

:wink

Don't blame Verizon for that, they have to charge you.

Congress requires all retail providers of telecommunications services providing interstate service to contribute to the Federal Universal Service Fund, which helps make phone service affordable and available to all Americans. Carriers are permitted by the FCC to charge a monthly customer fee to cover their contribution costs.

By the way... get rid of your damn landline already. Cell phones > land lines.

99% of the time people think they're covered on international calls but really aren't. I got hit with a 200 dollar cell phone bill because I talked to someone in canada for a half hour.

My cell company sucks. Tony if there is Centennial Wireless down there, never go with them. 57 a month 600 minutes/600 texts. They charge you 20 bucks to get a new phone, even after your contract is up.

Bunch of bullshit if you ask me. If I changed my plan right now I'd pay full months' bill on my current plan and a full months bill on the new plan because my billing cycle is every 17th.

I'm leaving Centennial with a big fuck you here shortly.

I go through Cingular....Free mobile to mobile as well and that is cool because alot of my friends have cingular, plus my family has it too...Out of the 700 minutes, i probably use only half of that on people that do not have cingular...So my roll-over minutes are piling up...The only thing that sucks is, i can't stop paying for a month or two and just talk on my roll-over minutes....That could save me even more money, but i don't think any company allows you to do that.

I just went to war with cingular. They overcharged me 450 bux over a 55 day period of time. I uprgaded my service, and put my mother and gf on the plan. I was told to expect a higher bill because of the activation fees, so when i got a bill for 360 bux the first month i was like ehhh, thats reasonable.
Then the next bill came and it was for 520 bux. After i changed my underwear cause i shit myself, i promptly called cingular as i was accessing my bill online. My Gf and I use blackjacks se we have to have a special plan on out phone that includes mess and internet. Well they gave us 3 plans each, plus left the original package on my line. an extra 200 and something bux per month plus tax.
After i got through with them my balance went from 860 to 410. They even took extra money off to apoligize and restore some "faith" as the clerk put it.

I have Cell One and pay $55 a month for 450 daytime minutes, unlimited nights/weekends, unlimited long distance, unlimited mobile to mobile and 200 text messages.

Then I pay $150 a month for a home phone, cable and internet package
