I'm guessing he must be thinking of a jack.
I'd vote for jack cus it'd be easier (not having to back your car out of the garage, line up the ramps, then bring your car back in again...). but I guess a jack is more expensive. if you're willing to spend the 100 bucks, then do it up. |

You can get a nice Craftsman jack with jackstands at Sears for under a $100. With that combo you can get the whole car off the ground.

I might be using the wrong word. I call it a lift I guess. Its a hydrolic jack. Sears has them for like $100. anyway he had one and it was real easy to take up and down but Im not sure if it gets "low" enough to wheel under the side skirts of a Mustang.

yep i have two jacks in my garage and 8 jack stands. when i put my car up the ramps we have the bottom of the bumper rubbed up against it. but now since i put on the chin spoiler i just have to do the jacks. and also even with the ramps if you wanted to do stuff to the rear you need a jack and jack stands. and yes usually a hydro jack will be low enough to get under the side skirts

I made my own ramps for like 10 dollars with wood but I got a good deal on wood.

or you could do it where the ramps are made out of steel, and are able to be lifted up when you put a jack under the one end and just pump it up until the car was high enough, then you wouldn't have to worry about your sideskirts and bumper becuase when you were to drive on to the ramp it would be only an inch or inch and a half above the floor of the garage, then just jack it up.

A jack & stands. Never work under your car without jackstands unless it's on a proper hoist.

does it give you enough clearance, or do you even need another layer?

I would just go with a jack and stands, but those homemade ones would work too.
