first turp, then sAJ1420, now me...
Last night, my friend wanted to show off. Before he was able to, he backed his dad's '02 Corvette into my car.
How much do you guys think this is going to cost to fix? He's trying to decide whether to have the insurance companies deal with it or just pay me for the damage. I've managed to reattach my 'scoop' so it doesn't look as ghetto, but I still hate driving around like this. |

you should go get an estimate from a couple body shops then let the guy who hit you decide.

I had similar damage on a sunfire and paint labor and parts was gonna be 500 dollars. We had a 500 dollar deductible at the time so I opted to pay for it myself so my rates wouldnt go up. If I were you I would geet the estimates so you know for sure how much you and your buddy are looking at.

Yeah, I'm going to visit a few body shops. He hasn't told his dad yet, it happened late last night.
The body shops around here are all pretty much next to each other, so I can visit a few at once. Thanks for the help and sympathy, guys.

My collision deductible is $250. Am I correct that I don't have to pay it because I am not at fault?

You are correct, as long as you do not claim it on your insurance. If it gets claimed on anyones insurance, make sure it is on his. Dont let him talk you into letting him pay your deductable and letting your ins. company pay the damage because you are the one who will end up paying higher rates and get a mark against you with your ins. company not him.

Thank you, I didn't know that.
I didn't know my premium would be increased even if it wasn't my fault. Is it the same with comprehensive claims? I'm off to get an estimate, thank you for your help. |

All your comments are great.I went and got some estimates: To repair: $1,600 at one place, $1,800 at another. The second place also gave me an estimate for replacing the quarter panel altogether, that's $2,600. Much more than expected.. I'm off to his house right now to go and talk to his dad, he took the news really bad. |

I was so angry when it happened. He thought I needed to move my car before he went back into the driveway for some reason, so I refused until he apologized and said he would pay everything. The rest of the time I saw him, I kept reminding him that I should kick his ass.
He planned to tell his dad when he got home from work. His dad called him from work and his first words were "What the fuck did you do to my car?" He calmed down later and said sorry fo overreacting. I went over there, and anyone could tell his dad was pissed. He was really quiet, didn't say hi to anyone, didn't look anyone in the eye. My friend told him that all that the Corvette needs is to be painted, and he said "it will never match" in the saddest voice ever. His dad is a UPS diver, and said he can't have anything on his record. They won't just file a claim because my friend doesn't have a drivers license. He told me to tell my insurance company that I found the car that way when i returned to the parking lot. he said he would pay that deductible. He said it won't raise my insurance premium at all, and nothing negative will come of it. Is that true? |

That isn't true. If you claim a deductable, your rates go up for a period of time because, regardless of fault, you are labeled "high risk."

your insurance will go up. if anything is on there it matters and they will rape yoiu for it. dont do it. make him pay the cash, if he doesnt want to turn it in on his record, or have his wife say that she did it ro something but not your ins

Alright, thanks alot guys.
The wife thing is a good idea. He's saying that his brother works for their insurance company, but his dad doesn't want to go through insurance. I asked him to talk to his dad bout it, and he was being a complete asshole, saying that it's between our insurance companies. I told him to suck it up and deal with it. What would be the consequences if I told my insurance company that he is uninsured and that he hit me? Would that affect me? |
