GT 500 Discussion

I have heard some good reviews by the new GT 500 but more so bad ones. Like many people on this site, i am a die hard mustang fan. But I cant help but over hear bad review after bad review. I have heard bone stock gt 500's only runs a 12.7 in comparison to the 11.8 z06 claims. Further this time is not much more than the 03 cobras with alot less hp. Also the car weighs over 3,900 lbs. Why do you think this is? And finally the suspension. Track test after track test shows horrible results. Please discuss all of these topics. Im extremely intrested in hearing everyones oppinions

I'm a die hard fan also but i think ford messed up withthe GT500 in a couple of ways. Manily building the motor on an iron block. plus the fact that it weighs 4,100 with a driver is ridiculous.

Im just not sure yet if i think they messed up but i agree on the weight. But if you look at the 04-04 cobras that were supercharged. They were also iron blocks. So they were in a way following that trend. More on this part, if one was to weigh other engines with iron blocks they still weigh lighter than this one. So even for the iron block catagory its on the heavy side.

If you buy a gt500 you should take it to a performance shop and have them do some work on it so they can perfect it

I too agree that Ford messed up. The car needs to loose about 500lbs, and something needs to be done about the 5.4 4v. It doesn't belong in the cobra. I think Carol Shelby must be nuts to let them put his name on this car.

Besides, a Shelby isn't a Shelby if it's built by SVT, it's a SVT. I bet if this project lied soley in that mans hands no one would be bitching.

Well, I dont mind a 5.4 liter motor in the mustang. I mean the cobra r and the Ford Gt has it. Also all gm corvettes, camaros, trans ams etc have 5.7 or larger. So i think its about time that the displacement is larger on production mustangs. My problem is the overrall weight, but the hp potential is unbelievable so it may make up for the extra weight. Any thoughts?

i have no problem with the size of the motor, i have a prblem with the matierial that it's made out of. LS whatevers are all alluminum, which is lighter then cast iron.

The only reason Shelbys are even being built is so Ford can make some extra scratch b4 Carrol dies... Oh put on a smalller pulley do this do that. and you still have a 4000+ lb car in the mid 11's with 600+ hp.. Dont impress me at all.. They aint nothin but show pieces...

all i've got to say is if i could afford one , i'd buy one. and the GT500's MSRP is actually really cheap ( if you could buy one at that price) when you think about it, you cant buy that kind of performance from any other new production vehicle at that price.

I looked into some more of the wieght comparisons. Look at this... The alluminum version only weighs 41 lbs less than the iron 5.4 version. The blocks them selves only have a difference of 19 lbs. My orginal thought to this weight was oh well its just the iron block weighing it down, but its actually a combination of really the car and engine. Does any one know how much a mustang gt motor weighs?

I feel that since Ford has no real competition when it comes to the mustang they're slacking.

Don't get me wrong i think the car is BADASS, but it's not my cup of tea. The only new mustangs i like are the convertibles.

Fords engineers got the right idea, just no one to kick them in there ARSE and go through with it.

The gto runs 13.3's like you said. And the gt 500 runs 12.7's but can very easily run low twelves with about 2 grand. The camaro will run around the same as the gto because it will have the 400 hp ls2 motor in it. So in comparison to those cars it will eat them alive modded or un modded, but id like to see a stock cobra beat a stock corvette once in my fuckin life.
