GNX VS. S197 GT

MY COUSIN WANTS TO RACE MY STANG AGAINST HIS 87 GNX BOTH BONE STOCK. HE WONT STOP BUGGIN ME ABOUT A RACE...AND ALTHOUGH I AM A HUGE FAN OF THE GNX...I THINK IT HAS NO CHANCE....I HOPE,LOL...WHAT DO YOU GUYS THINK!!!

wow that is a rare car. after a quick google search, my guess is that you will be ahead through 1st and most of second, but then he will start to pull on you. with some bolt ons your car could take him.

Depends on how nice his car is. Stock to Stock, Brand new to 19 years old? Theres too many factors involved to say for sure without being there and seeing the car...

the website I looked at buickgnx.com said a claimed e.t. of 13.3 but still I think he will walk away from you. those cars were pretty cool. they had an MSRP of like $29k even back in 87.

thats what they claimed from the factory because they didn't want it decimating the corvette that badly in theory. Gm's flag ship out right stomped by a turbo 6? They got down hyped.

ALL VERY TRUE...GM DID DOWNHYPE THE CARCAUSE IT WAS FASTER THAN THIER MAIN CAR,THE CORVETTE, BUT YOU SHOULD ALSO KNOW THAT FORD DOWNHYPES THE S197 TOO...MY FRIEND WORKS FOR FORD AND THEY SAY THAT THEY PUT THE GT AT 300 EVEN EVEN THOUGH IT IS REALLY 3 AND A QUARTER,AND THE GT500 THEY DID THE SAME THING...ALL THATSAID....I STILL THINK IT WOULD BE A FUN RACE TO SEE AND I WILL TRY TO GET VIDEO OF IT...I WANT TO RACE HIM B4 I DO ANY MODS. Only if you put on some axle backs, CAI and a tune then the GT will smoke him. If you let her breath she goes Ford dumbed her down, Why?

the reason ford dumbed the Stang down is because of insurance reasons and that they are struggling to sell cars nowadays...so they didnt want to turn people off with high insurance and low warranties...understandable

The factory rating in 87 for the GNX is 276hp and 360ft-lbs@2600 of torque, but in reality those figures are conservative

and I believe that there gear ratio is a 3.42.

it should be a drivers race.

ur friends full of crap....the new gt 500 barely dyno at 460 to the wheels...and the new GTs put down like 270. Ford didn't downhype crap.

ford doesn't need to push people to buy the mustang, there selling almost 100,000 units per year if not more.

On stock tires the GNX runs consistant 13.4/104...With a better tire and a driver with more seat time they are a stock 12 second car...

It would give a Stock 03/04 Cobra a run for their money...
