got my hands dirty today

helping a buddy of mine do a cam swap on his c5. he put a new 427 in it and the cam he bought for it is too big. i never done this before and hope i never will again. my question is, is it easier to do on a s197?

Are you asking if it's easier to put cams in a 4.6 than it is to put one in an LS engine? If that's the question, the answer is no.

I tell the truth. Deal with it.

Lol ok.... to answer your question. Putting a cam in an LSx engine is cake. Not that camming a mod motor is difficult but can't say it's as easy as an LS.

dr.gonzo - no need to drop the engine bro. Just pulling off the fan assemblies and steering rack (which is a little pain in the ass) but other than that not so bad.

If you pull a ohv engine to swap a cam, you either have toooooo much time on your hands or you dont have enough room to slide it out/in.

It's not any harder really you just have to pull more shit off a pushrod motor than a modular. It's easy, just more work. The actual cam install part is easier because all you have to do is slide it in and bolt down the bearing caps. It's all the removing of lifters, pushrods, rocker arms, etc. it's not hard by any means though.

Yeah. I know. Ls engines are not ohc. They're ohv. Overhead valve. The cam is through the center of the block. You need to raise the engine to get out the cam.
