$45k? Wishful Thinking. Used cars have been selling at $50k +.

And what's with the Pig Comments still getting thrown out? 200lbs more than the 03-04 Cobra gets you stiffer chassis, better brakes, Bigger engine that responds to mods much better, better clutch and Trans, better looks and interior.... Whats the GT weigh, 3650? 300HP? Hmmmm.

Let the Flaming begin!!!

I don't really like the look of the front at all on the GT 500's.

But with it's competition between other Domestic muscle cars the weight issue is killing the GT500. The weight of the C6 Z06 being 3132 lbs and being around the same horsepower there is no comparison between the two cars. Even a stock 2008 Corvette has a chance of beating the new cobra.

Muscle Car > Sports Car

MSRP GT500 is $42K
MSRP C6ZO6 is $70K
And you can't use the ADM because the ZO6 has them too. The real deal is the base C6. It edges out the GT500 in just about every category but again, its not a muscle car.

There is not a "Muscle Car" on the market that will compete with GT500. The GTO is the closest thing to it. When the Camero and Challenger comes out, they will be close to the same weight and HP. That's when the real fun will start.

Don't listen to their rable manOwar ther'ye just suffering from a case of extreme envy. The Z06 may be faster but in my opinion it feels like sitting in a rolling coffin, not that it's not a safe vehicle but it feels like sitting in a coffin, that rides like a lumber wagon.

Last I heard ,a discounted Z06 was the same or less than a marked up GT500 which is where the sense leaves the argument. GT500s very rarely appear at list.

The base C6 was tested against the GT500 and was mainly faster but handles better anyway and is a different sort of car but still a competitor at the right money. The 2008 Corvette is better and has the LS3 which is 6.2 litres and 430hp.

As for muscle car vs sports car, it's an academic distinction when they are both aimed at the performance market and sell for similar money. Of course, you can also get a discounted C6 - an even better bargain - but the rider I add there is that there's no such thing as a base C6 really, it needs those options, especially the Z51 suspenders.

The real competition for the heavy GT500 (and there's just no getting away from the fact it's too heavy) is a Mustang GT with a blower and suspension mods - or a Roush/Saleen. They most certainly are muscle cars if you need to attach labels and are the GT500s downfall on a power to weight ratio and particularly taking into acount premiums.

It still comes down to simple choice though. It's a good-looking car (not my cup of tea but there''s no denying it). No-one can say the GT500 is exactly slow, just that it should be faster and nimbler and MUCH faster when you take the premiums into account because it has a wholly different set of competitors.

The Challenger will be a weighty item (unless they shorten it) with not enough power from the 425hp SRT engine to be a challenge for anything but a Mustang GT. The GTO was heavy too.

The Camaro should have a whole GM arsenal to deploy, most with nuclear warheads. GMs mentality these days is the Nurburgring and handling above all and with a choice between the 6.2 LS3 and a supercharged version to come, it will be spoilt for choice. I don't believe it will be as heavy as people think - especially given the adverse reaction to the GT500s weight and you'll recall the 4th gen used lots of plastic to keep the weight down. Plus the LS engine is all alloy - no iron here.

I doubt the hand-built 7.0 LS7 will ever be cheap enough for anything bar a very expensive Camaro - but hey the GT500 sold at silly premiums so maybe there's a market after all. I suspect the paradox there is that people will pay for a cheap car that's been marked up by dealers as a necessary evil but would criticise GM for having a list price the same (especially as the dealers would mark it up even more...).

If you tell me you bought a GT500 for $42,000 I'll call you a liar unless you are the son of a owner of a dealership and which dictionary did you get the definition of "Muscle Car" from?

You must be having a hard time with reading comprehension.

I didn't say anything about what I paid, I quoted the MSRP on both base vehicles.

What is the difference in a Muscle car and a Sports car? Try this:

Part of the price with the GT500s is the name, The Z06 doesnt have the heritage that the Shelby GT500. Think back to when you first found out that they were releasing a brand new GT500, remeber hwo you felt and what you thought? You think even chevy fans feel like that for the camero or the z06? I dont think so.

Well actually you must be having a hard time with reading comprehension. You ruled out the GT500 In your own definition.

"A muscle car, by the strictest definition, is an intermediate sized, performance oriented model, powered by a large V8 engine, at an affordable price. Most of these models were based on "regular" production vehicles. These vehicles are generally not considered muscle cars, even when equipped with large V8s. If there was a high performance version available, it gets the credit, and not the vehicle that it was based on."

So the GT500 is reasonable priced
