serious thread

alright guys, heres the deal. im sick and tired of my job.
im tired of traditional schooling, i was previously attending community college, but im not going this semester.
i need to figure out what to do with my life. my only passion is cars. i love cars. i would love to build race engines. but i dont know anything about building engines, i know some but definetly not enough.
id like to go to UTI but its like $24k and thats a shitload of money.
i need a step in the right direction. i dont know where to start.
the job i have now, could be a career, but i just dont want to be crawling in attics till im 70 years old, our 67 year old employee still does the same work i do.
im making $400 a week with only $88 a month for insurance, $15 for internet and no other bills. so the money is fine. i dont know just any tips or any help what so ever from yall would be greatly appreciated.

criminal justice, for a criminal. thats a weird change of events if i were to do that. i dont want to have anything to do with the government, i dont care for the government, sure its better than anywhere else, but i have my gripes.

i basically do construction work right now. im an air conditioning installer. out of all the construction workers its between us and the plumbers who have the hardest job. especially plumbers in remodels.

i dont want a blue collar job, unless it has to do with cars.

look at it like this.. it will give you a new perspective of things..

just cause you enjoy cars doesn't mean you would be happy with a job working with cars.. get a nice job, maybe start a business and just let the money roll in so you can have fun with cars on your own time..

i personally know TONS of guaranteed, fool-proof ways to get loaded rich.. the only thing you need is just a little bit of spare cash to invest into something.. you can pm if you want and i can tell you a few ways (legally, lol) to make great money.. if you have some extra cash laying around, thats all you need..

You live in Houston right? Isn't that where the School of Automotive Mechanics is? Or is that the same as UTI? I would look into SAM and see what it costs to go there. I've got a buddy in that school right now and he says he's learning a ton. You can do more than just build engines. If you have an artistic side why not go into a design side of the industry?

232- Im not being evil here but it sounds like youre saying that you have no financial responsibilies. Insurance and internet payments is all??? Well the first thing is that you still have gas, food spending money and all the incidentals still. The good thing is that its still a very small % of your income you describe. YOU ARE BLESSED BROTHER! You have what is called liquid income or disposable income. This gives you an opportunity to do alot of things.

Here's what I'd do in the light that I say that you have to do something that makes you happy.

You can obviously cut down on your hours at your current job ( or at least request it) and still make your financial obligations without issue. This will give you the hours in a day needed to pursue whatever you want. Just dont WASTE that time. That time is MONEY you could be making so make the best of it. Find an apprentice job or internship of sorts in the field you like. If that wont work, volunteer. I know it sounds crazy but listen. If there is a shop you can get to that has a good reputation for good work and solid technicians go to it. Tell them your story and tell them you'll show up for nothing a few hours a day to help out. You can hand mechanics tools and learn hands on. You will learn more in a month there than you'll learn out of a college course book in 3 months. This also gives you an in at the shop later. Also, you will see if this is something you really want to do.

You are very lucky to have monay and time... dont waste it or the good man will take it away.

** Dont fall into some get rich quick scheme either. Hard work and good decisions will always beat luck and chance.

^luck and chance pay off so much more tho

and being a mechanic sucks.. you have to really love fixing cars.. you have to have that satisfaction from seeing the car roll outta the garage knowing that you were the one that diagnosed the problem and you were the one that fixed it. it's really about feeling like you're smart and useful everytime you fix something. if you don't get that feeling, you're gonna hate yourself in a few years.. especially when you see the crappy hours and bad pay

i mean, the average mechanic makes like $35k-$40k a year.. u gotta work ~10hours a day.. you gotta buy all your own tools..

the good news is that it's extremely easy to get a job as a mechanic. i see ads in the newspaper all the time for open positions where you're only required to have a diploma.. as long as you can wrench they dont care how long you been at it

so yea..
