No way dude. You should be able to replace the sending unit without replacing the tank. The labor isnt too terribly complicated and the parts should be had for much less than 600 bux.

Sounds like it is time to take it to someone else. Why would you need a new tank, is it leaking, and that is why it is always showing empty

I would guess that the fuel sending unit has crapped out. Yes, you have to take the tank out, but I would think $300 would be too much, much less $600. You can pay me $600, and I can fly to Florida and fix it for you

Why would you need a new tank? The problem is either the gas gauge, wiring, or (most likely) the sending unit in the tank. It probably comes as an assembly with the fuel pump and costs a couple hundred bucks. The bill with labor (from the dealer) might just reach $600 though. I doubt seriously it's made into the tank.

(edit** damn.. two people beat me to it)

dealers always try to rip you off, today i got some hoses and stuff for my bimmer and the guys at the dealer said that it was impossible to put them on by my self and that i needed to pay them $60 for them to do it. It took me about 10 min of figuring out doing it and getting my hands dirty to do it. Im not saying that there not out there, but I dont think i have ever met a completely honest person working at a dealership. Who knows where id be without my knowlege of cars, oh thats right with everyone else who gets conned or with the people who buy a 5k dollar civic rather than a 5k dollar much nicer and better running bimmer or the like lol

Those Assrammers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 'While we were doing your all-wheel alignment, we went ahead and checked the rest of your car, and, you need some headlight fluid and a V-tec tune into your Toyota. This won't cost much, though, only $500 for parts and labor'

Pay the money for the new tank. Its just money. Love , don't make war. Had to say something else other then what everyone else was saying.
