utility bills

I am always knocked off my feet by the cost of my electric. I have to guess electric is the biggest utility bill. I guess if you include include the phone in your utilities, that one might be bigger on occasion.

Well, I just got my electric bill and it was $310 for the last 30 days.

Whats the biggest utility bill you ever got?

how do they swing that? homeless? Squatters?

our electric bill should have been 250 this month but we have some sort of flat rate thing where we over pay some months and under pay othrs. Last summer we would get hit with $500 dollar wills every 45 days or osmething.......kinda killed the week.

In NY? I didnt realize the cost was so high in New York. You'd think the price per kilowatt woud be the same from place to place but its not.

My brother who lives 30 miles south of me has a different electric company. Keep in mind, the electricity is MADE at the same plant but he pays like 25% more than I do. Its BS!!

Thats pretty extreme...Even when I lived in florida my highest was like $145....

Try turning the hot water tank thermostat down alittle if its electric...When was the last time your air conditioner was serviced? Does it keep temp, or struggles thru the day?

My house was just built this year. I have one A/C for the bedrooms and one for the living areas. This house is good sized but it still seems too high. I keep the hot water tank low because I have kids and I dont want them to accidently scald themselves. I have the AC's programmed to turn to 80 degrees in the day and down to 74 for night.

This house is insulated like shit. It has alot of windows on the south/west side. It still feels like we pay more than people in other parts of the country.

If you keep the house at 80 during the day and 74 at night...the humidity may be building up in the house to high and causes the system to work harder to pull it back down to 74...Also I have seen new installs in brand new houses were the electric heat may be coming on in one of your units...You said the house was just built so you should have some kind of warranty...call the builder and tell them about your high ass electric bill and they should send the company out that installed the A/C and have them check it....If everything checks out ok, try keeping the thermostat at 76 or 78 during the day and see if there is any difference in your bill...I have been doing air conditioning and refrigeration for 21 years now...

Awsome. Thanks for the insight. I'll give them a call to check out the units. You're right, there's a 10 year warranty on the systems. It shouldnt cost me a dime to have them test it. Maybe a fan is going out or something who knows.

I'll also adjust the temp to be a little more level.

it just sucks because Florida electricity cost me more than in Ohio. The Killowatt hours cost more.

No problem......And you're right, it shouldn't cost you a dime...Along with the 10 year manufacture warranty you should have atleast a 1 year labor warranty on the systems...Let us know how you make out and if they find anything.
