My first car was an 82 Rabbit. I bought it for $200 in 1990. Had 212,000 miles. That car was very fun to drive.

I had the clutch go out. I remember the mechanic telling me it was time to throw the car away because it was disposable. It pissed me off so bad.

I ran it without a battery for over a month. I would push it in reverse with one leg out the door to pop the clutch. The battery was pointless cuz it was so easy to start without it. It was "auto armour'd" at birth so there was no rust anywhere on it. Kick ass!!!!!

why 4 door? Mine was 2 door. I think it had like 80 hp. It was actually fuel injected. I learned alot from that car. I bought a Chiltons and did alot of work myself with a very basic tool set. There was tons of room to get at things and it was so simple. I do miss the car. I think I could get better than 30 miles per gallon out of it to (pretty good for that year)

I didnt realize there were so many enthusists.

I remember the exhaust fell off it at one point. I went to a car parts store and bought ( I think it was called "cherry bomb) muffler. I twas loud and obnoxious. It was basically a fart can. Everyone teased me about it but it was fun to hear that little motor just zippin along. In 1990, the whole "import" thing hadnt taken off yet so my car was kind of out of place. It was a little ahead of its time.

Back in the day, there was a guy who had the same year as mine. He did the coolest thing to it. He chopped it.

He cut 8 inches off the top. You could only barely tell where he welded it. He did the whole thing in like 3 hours. I wish I had pictures. It looked like a really mean pissed off little Rabbit. He was able to do something with the all the side windows but it had no windshield or back glass. Maybe later he added it, Im not sure.

I'd like to see that. I have always been intreaged by the VR6 engines. The crank stroke and head porting and valve operation is conveluted. Still they sound awesome and run well.
