so because i'm an impatient bastard my car is laid up at the a dealership misfiring.

I did the PI intake swap and fired it up within 2 hours of the rtv. I'm not leaking any visable coolant, but she's smokinging a little in the rear of the intake. After about 45 minutes i got a misfire in cylinder 4.

We also got a real good hardocre look at my car and found out some stuff i don't like about it. Dealership fixed some problems, but didn't "fix" them. My exhuast is held on by bolts that don't belong where they are.

It also seems that they knew about the leaking intake and instead of fixing it they put an extra clamp on it. That was finger tightened.

What it comes down to is this...we think that we can fix the misfire ourselves, We don't know whats causeing the smoking....., and if we can't fix it I'm just going to tear the top half of the motor apart and do the full swap with aftermarket cams.

I just may not have a car until Xmas....... :topicsucks

Are you sure you didnt just spill some coolant or fuel onto the exhaust or block ? If you did its gonna smoke until it burns off ,no big deal. If the intake was leaking you would notice some driveability/idling issues.

Try using a black light in the dark to check for leaking coolant. Since coolant is a neon color,you should be able to see if any is leaking out.

me and my buddy sat down for about 3 hours last night trying to figure out what we did wrong. After talking to Ujstlost and mustangmatt we think we may have figured it out.

Were almost positive that we can fix it without having to take everything apart. My misfire in cylinder 4 we think is because that wire was soaked in coolant and we didn't clean it off very well. We didn't blow out the spark plugs either. That could still be covered in coolant.

Mat also brought up maybe the coolant tube we replaced is leaking, and spilling a little bit of coolant onto the exhaust, causeing the car to smoke when it starts warming up.

She idled fine, even with the misfire in 4. Before when u used to get on my car, when u hit the power band the car used to bogg down, cause of the loss in pressure due to the leak. Now when u get on my car it just goes.....no bogging down whatsoever. But it doesn't pull like it should. We think thats cause i was only running on 7 cylinders.

Hopefully all the smoke that my car was making was just spilled coolant and fuel. I'm praying.

edit: my buddyt just rolled up ion my car. It turns out a peace of tape was caught inside the injector hole causing cylinder 4 to misfire

and yeah......we feel like idiots. We blew everything out before we were reaasembling it. But apparently while we were messing with the the wires and cables trying to get them to sit properly above the plenum, a piece of tape came off and fell into the spark plug hole.

car books though. 3rd and 4th gear are monsters, 5th gear still pulls
