Windows Vista problems

Got AT&T DSL internet for the home. Came with a back-up disk for all my operating programs. Installed it like was instructed. Now ALL my media stuff won't respond. Player, DVD, picture aps, etc;.

Called AT&T and they have no idea, called Gateway, they're clueless, have contacted Microsoft. You can imagine how that conversation went.

I get an error message. Says that the media player/center needs to be reinstalled. Can install from Microsofts website. Tried that. Get another message that says Media center is already installed. Went to programs to remove it from the computers so I can install it from the website. Its not in my operating programs... Where'd it go??

Told this to the tech dude @ MS and he thinks I'm retarded. Had a buddy that is a computer guru look at it, and he says its a Vista issue. MS should take care of it. They wanna charge me a shit load of $$$ to verbally diagnose the problem.

Anybody else have Vista or problems with AT&T internet?

Vista is retarded. best you can do is uninstall the AT&T software and see if that fixes it if it does not then you need to recover your vista install and do not reinstall the at&t software. the problem is most likely that the AT&T software is not specifically designed for vista.

+1 for Vista bein a slackjaw...

That was my first thought, but AT&T swears that the back-up was created specifically for Vista users.

If I uninstall the AT&T software, can I retain my internet somehow?
I'm not too computer savvy, so make it easy for me...

ms media player is not the best choice

use winamp for your music.

use VLC player for your movies etc.

your internet uses PPPOE Authentication which has been built into the windows os since windows 2000 there software is useless and they distribute it solely to advertise for them selves. ever notices how ur internet explorer now says Provided by AT&T or something like that.

I happen to prefer windows media player its actually something that MicroShit did right. it organizes the library into folder automatically by band and cd title.

yeah lol seriously. biggest problems is people change from xp to vista and their hardware does not work cause there are not enough drivers out there for the different hardware.

this guys is a good example on what problems you run into

Ya it has to be Vista approved to work other wise it sets up a conflict, also dump the mail that came with Vista a beta program is on the M/S site that works much better. And the Macaffe Virus protection has issues with Vista. Go to cnet.com and down load avast! 4.7 it's free an has no issues with Shista.
I hate Vista, how bad? I spent 250 dollars to fix my old Dell with XP Pro on it and set up a wireless network so I can surf the net. My wife can have the new Gateway! And Vista. The Dell went into my garage!
