can someone plz explain to me how domains are bought?

i dont understand why you need to buy them, who owns them?

im lost on this..

There are also domains that are not on the internet...On a network you can have domains...That is a group of computers connected through a network...

If you dont own a server, then you pay to use someone elses server, to run off there own

ok so at&t and other large companies own the internet, they buy domains from a global company that distributes them, im assuming the first person who thought of it, and well thats how it works in a nutshell. not cool i know... but hey, without them we wouldnt be on mm right now eh?

A group of networked domains make up an intranet...

Right click the "My Computer" icon on your desktop...

Go to properties...

Click on "Computer Name" tab

Go down to change

You will see "Member Of: one option for Domain and another option that says Workgroup"
