Computer problems. Wont Boot up

ok this is my sisters laptop that aint working. when you turn it on, it goes right to the Black screen with white lettering. the screen where you can boot in safe mode ect. well you click safe mode and for a split second a blue screen with white lettering will flash. goes by to fast for me to see what anything says on it. then nothing happens except it goes back to the where you can enter safe mode ect screen again and then the blue screen with white lettering flashes again. and it continues to do this over and over again.

i tried clicking the last good configuration and it does the same thing.

i have no idea whats going on or how to fix this.

Well was able to see a little what the blue white scrren said and it mentioned this... Unmountable Boot Volume

Help please

Before reformatting try reinstalling the sys files...

- Put a windows xp disc into the cdrom (the one that came with her computer that says "operating system")
- Hit enter when it asks if you want to install a fresh copy of windows
- Then it will auto-detect the operating system
- Then press R
- This will reload the .sys files and should fix this issue

- If it does not find an operating system then you need to reboot the system then press F10 when it is coming up to the initial screen.
- Now you are entering the BIOS.
- Go through and look for a hard-drive test (EDS Test on some)
- Run the test
- If it comes back with an error (Prolly 7) then the hard-drive has crashed.
- If it comes back clean then you are going to have to reload the operating system.

The data will be lost unless you can slave the laptop hard-drive off another computer and drag the info off of it that way.

If you need more help just let me know.

-Chris

Yeah ti could be but personally I think it is very unlikely...I have seen this same thing happen on alot of computers at work...Its normally fixed with a .sys repair...But about 1 in 5 are "error 7" drives...

My gut feeling tells me a hd is bitched. Based on this: "Unmountable Boot Volume "

You can pick up an IDE to USB converter for about $20. Take the hard drive out of the laptop and use the converter to hook it up to your computer. If it won't read it at all the drive is likely dead. If it can read it you can at least copy the data off of it. Also, most laptop manufactures provide a diagnostic disk you can boot up with and test the HDD and other components with. Good Luck.
