BEWARE dont buy Pypes brand products

I'm not sure if this belongs in this sub forum or not, but i figured anyone researching x-pipes might see it here.

I recently purchased a Pypes brand x pipe with catalytic converters, which is listed as California C.A.R.B. legal on their website.
I was imediately disapointed with the product due to the fact that the picture showed a fully welded system, and the system i got was in pieces and had to be clamped.
I decided to give it a shot, and put it on. The fit was rather poor, but i managed to fudge it in. The clamps did a pretty poor job of sealing it up and it leaked all over.
A couple weeks later i decided to just weld it because their site mentioned that it was the strongest way to attach it.
Not a huge deal, since the price was decent and it seemed to work ok after i welded it.
A month or so later, it was time to go for my smog check. I braught it in and they failed me because they said my x pipe wasnt smog legal. I was rather confused due to the fact their site specifically said it was legal for use in CA.
At this point i figured it was time to call the manufacturer. After i expained the situation, they told me that California is just being picky and that it is legal. I told them that in order to be legal, it needs to have a C.A.R.B. number. He put me on hold for a minute and said i should try going through smog again because i just went to a bad smog station. I knew this was B.S. so i asked for the carb number. He put me on hold one more time and said the carb number was listed on their site and was d-567. Now i might not be a detective, but that seems like a bogus number to me, judging by the other carb numbers i've seen.
After 10 minutes on the phone with this guy, it was apparent he had no intentions of owning up to their mistake or helping me out. After this realization, I mentioned that i had nothing but problems with the installation and that i had to weld it just to get it to seal, and also that claiming that it was C.A.R.B. legal when in fact it wasnt was false advertising and against the law. His reply was that since i welded it, they had no responsibility to fix the situation since i didnt call them before i welded it EVEN THOUGH THEIR SITE STATES THAT WELDING IS THE STRONGEST WAY TO GO. If they dont want it welded, they shouldnt put that on there or they should clearify that it will completely rid themselves of any responsibility of correcting major mistakes on their part.

Sorry for the rant, but since there are probably Californians on this site, i figured i should at least give some warning.

Sorry to hear that you went through all of that bullshit. I never heard anything bad about Pypes before, so it's all news to me. Good luck.

sorry to hear that. a friend of mine put their x-pipe on his gt and he was just as pissed. the fitment was junk and leaked all the time. he ended up trading the car in for a few reasons, that being a big one. he now has a 04 cobra, for some reason he likes it better than his gt.

I have Pypes cat back and it's great but I am glad for the heads up on the mid pipe. Any posibility of swapping out for another high performance cat? If all else fails let me give you this piece of advice.. Coming from a customer service call center background, ESCALATE! If you don't get the answer you want ESCALATE! Get his boss. Then if its the same shit get their boss! Eventually you willg et what you want. No matter how high you go there is always someone higher. and by the time it gets to the manager of the entire cust service team they don't wanna deal with an irate calll so they give you the refund.

I have the pypes X pipe, and honestly couldn't be happier with it. No leaks and sound is great. It comes in the 3 piece design for an easier backyard install. I'm surprised you had a hard time with them.

I had a pypes x-pipe on my old mach I sold. I will say the quality of pipe is not as good as other manufacs but it was an easy install and it sounded pretty good. I guess you get what you pay for...

if you truly believe that it is not carb legal then you should contact the california attorney generals office and let them know about the situation.
