not really. you will need a bigger power supply for the newer motherboards

I would say, yes, you need a case that allows the form factor of the motherboard (ie. ATX, MicroATX, BTX)

Most mid sized cases are ATX compatable, which is what the majority of the motherboard come in.

but mostly for viewing movies and playing full-screen games (halo, css)

i want a blu-ray/HD player in it too

for a gaming rig, you can prolly get a long fine with a $1000 rig. You're gonna need a powerfull GFX that runs for about 300 bucks alone.

as for the blu-ray... its not worth it, most drives are going for a grand alone...
