my motor

Okay I tore the notch down to a short block today and I did 99.9% of the labor and it only took about 3hours I must say I have a lot more respect for guys who build there own stuff. Anyways the block was bad big crack in the side and piston number 7 moves freely so I figure we got to get a new shortblock. Now I have a couple of choice buy my own parts block, rods, pistons you know a short block or buy a short block out of a 7s second mustang for 5000. Or I can buy a 427 short block but its all stock internals and that option is 4500. Let me know what yall think is the best option Im lead toward the shortblock from the 7 second car.
Thanks,
Cameron

The 427 is a two bolt main so Im not intersted and stock internals. Also the 7second motor has been ran for 3 years so that concern me. I think I may just build my own.

If its a Windsor it doesn't have stock internals. Depending on the year of the block the number of bolts in the main caps doesn't mean shit. I ran a production 2 bolt 351W block and made over 700 horsepower and turned it 8500 rpm.

Also your 7 second short block theory is flawed. For one, if you are not using it for the same application it won't work. Example, if it is a heavy nitrous motor or forced induction motor it will not perform the same naturally aspirated or vice versa for a number of reasons. Ring gap, bearing clearance, compression ratio, etc. Don't forget about valve reliefs which are probably not anywhere near the location of your heads because running as fast as this guy was he was probably using a canted valve head. An engine of that caliber needs to be refreshened more often as well. Plan on doing rings and bearings every year.

I know It wouldnt run seven I would have to change pistons because it was a turbod motor It made 1700 hp I think I could probaly get 9s with my heads and intake on it. But I lean more towards build my own. He was running twisted wedge Rs for heads how much are those.

Okay here the shortblock IM think of building.

Dart 351windor block bored to a 427
Billet crank
forged pistons and rods
Then I would run my gt40xs for heads
and have em ported run my same intake.
