Yamaha Bikes...

Been kicking around the idea of owning a bike again...nothing big, but something on/off road. Yamaha has a "Dual Purpose" model TW200 that looks like my speed. Anybody have any experience with one....thanks.

mindless posting

for dual purpose depending on your weight it would be a decent bike if your gonna see some of the higher speeds like 50-70 i would at least sit on a bigger bike and see how the weight feels

Thanks matt...I'll mostly be riding dirt and trails and very little street. I'm not looking for serious top end speed, just something with a little torque in the soft stuff...and yeah I'm under 170 Lbs.

KTM makes similar bikes. And IMO look/perform alot better. I have ridden an older dual purpose KTM...Pretty fun, but not my style.

I have heard the dual purpose bikes are like the worst of both worlds and you are better getting either one or the other. i have no personal experience with it but that is what i hear from my friends that ride both and have owned dual purpose bikes

the r6 sucks for the street period. zero low end torque and you have to keep that thing above 10grand constantly to keep up with other 600 bikes like the gsxr600

I would go with a WR250. The dual purpose bikes are heavy as shit and are a bitch offroad. I have the WR450 and that thing is a beast, but the 250 would be perfect for you. Its go a great suspension and is pretty quick.

If you go dual purpose bike, get a KTM!

If you go strictly the dirtbike route then all the companys are really close together in competition, most of it has to do with the rider themself. But I do know that yamaha has won alot of the shootouts.

I also prefer 2 strokes over 4 strokes...Love the sound and performance. Seems alot of new riders are swapping to the 450 4 strokes, i'll stick with the 250 2 strokes myself...KTM offers great off road bikes...Look into the XC or XC-W classes for off road...Motocross bikes are the SX classes.

Unless all you do is ride, you really wont notice much difference in the dirtbikes. A few little style/positioning differences, but not much at all. I have never ridden a dirtbike that i havent liked/felt comfortable on. Street bikes are another story though.
