what makes a hemi a hemi.

im pretty sure it has something to do with the heads. and if so if you buy after market heads is it still a hemi.....I was watching the movie vanishing point and i thought about it. This is the 1996 vinishing point so it sucks im about to buy the old one.

A V24 engine is a V engine with 24 cylinders, suitable only for very large trucks or locomotives.

A very large V24, the AS.6, engine was built by FIAT in the early 30s as a powerplant for the competition aeroplane Macchi M.C.72. This engine was in reality formed by mounting two FIAT AS.5 V12 one behind the other, obtaining a total displacement of over 50L and a power output of about 3100 hp. The two units remained separated (they could be started separately) but the output shaft was shared. Between the units sat the gearbox that was used to reduce the propeller speed, and the final output shaft ran between the cylinder banks of the front engine to reach the nose of the aeroplane.

Back in the day not many car companies were making engins with hemispherical heads on them. so when this style came out, it was a huge improvement, thus really putting mopar in some sort of standings. Nowadays most engines are hemis, and Dodge and Chrysler just uses the name.

A hemi engine is just a shortened name for the style of heads.

Hemispherical. Half moon. Mopar found out that is a good way to make power. Thats all it is. Nothing more nothing less. Just the style of heads.

thats kind of sad when a 5.0L ford cammer makes 400 hp....

typically, Hemis are for big blocks to evenly distribute the pressure in a multitude of directions on the power stroke, instead of straight up against the head in one direction. Big blocks and high compression and old head gasket technology= blown head gaskets. the Hemi idea was to help that.

why is that sad when the cammer is a high cost hand built race engine and the 5.7 comes in farm trucks?
