U.S. Department of Labor....help

i got a letter from the department of Labor...it starts with
An investigation of the firm named aboved has been completed by thif office, back wages in the amount shown were found due you under the Fair Labor Standards act ACT.

i guess im owed $100.83...letter looks legit..took it to my employer he told somebody probably sue the company and they came up that they owed me money..he said just send it back and i get my check...some lady said she wouldnt trust it cause it ask for my social #...
by the way i work for a grocery store...any input..should i just send it...if anyone has had an experince like this let me know..thanks..any input would be appreciated

Contact the IRS. See if there are any owed back taxes. Contact your local state dept. See if they can offer clarification

Try sending it back in with like two of the numbers in your social incorrect or out of order, and see if you get another letter back from them saying that the number didnt match what they have in their database... Then you will know if its legit or not. Even if it is it may take a month or two to get that hundo...

never send your SS number in the mail to anyone but the irs anyway. Who ever it is does not need it by mail. Call them. If they are legit they will have a working phone and soforth. A good rule of thumb is to always be leary of anyone asking for personal info.

i called the number on the letter..its 415-625-7700...its the number to the U.S. Department of Labor in San Francisco..the address is

i think i will do that..see what happends..im pretty sure any department of the U.S would know a person's SSN..in the bottom it says:
your Social Security Number is used for paying income and FICA taxes. Submission is required by 26 U.S.C. 6109
