Will this break anything?

My buddy has a 99 lincoln continental with the 4V. Right now he is a little strapped for cash and has been putting regular in it. It is supposed to have premium but with gas getting close to $3 a gallon...

Somewhere I heard the 4V don't have knock sensors so is he going to blow it up?

tell him to get a new car then. sorry to break it to you gas isn't going down and will never again be around $2.

PS 99 Lincoln will have a knock sensor.

Why have the vehicle if he cannot afford to put $2-3 dollars more of gasoline in it at a time? How cheap can you honestly be? Let's see, spend about $3 extra every fill up, or risk messing up the vehicle which will cost more in the end???

It will void the warenty from Ford. It will triger the Check engine light. I know this because I worked at a Ford dealer and they would come in.It will pop up right on the computer the right octane of gas not used

Its a 99 with 60k on it, so no warranty. Plus premium gas is $3.39 around me

and on top of that the economy is in the shitter and nobody is making any money..

Still, what's regular? It is usually 20 cents cheaper than premium. For 10 gallons of gas, that is $2 extra. Tell your friend to stop being cheap!

It won't blow up. If it's going to do anything, it will have some detonation under hard acceleration. You would have to have severe detonation and/or drive a vehicle for some time to do any damage.

However, I have to agree with what Tony said. It's not that much more expensive for the premium if he has issues.
