scary experience with the Comet

today me and my dad were working on our 1973 Mercury Comet GT.. i was in the driver's seat and my dad was over on the side of the car spraying ether into the carburetor and i hear him yell FIRE!

i scrambled out of the car and noticed a huge flame over the carburetor.. my dad tried to smother it with a blanket and i ran to find a fire extinguisher.. when i was running back i heard him yell and say "the fire's out" so i just stopped for a second to catch my breath and he was like "OMGWTF! its back!" so i took off running towards it.. i aimed the fire extinguisher at it and pulled the pin and he told me not to spray it because he finally smothered it.. it burnt up like half the blanket, but other than that the damage was minimal.. if that fire would have spread any faster, we would have lost about $500k worth of stuff.. did i mention the car was parked right next to a big ass acetelyne tank? yep, it would have made one bigass explosion and took out everything in our 8 car garage.. yep, we got lucky.

don't start fires next to a inflamable tank... it can bring havoc

If you ever get a carb fire crank the engine without pressing the gas.It will suck the flames out. I have stick in my dist one tooth off a few times and had bad carb backfires. Cranking sucked it out.

*edit. Good save!

thats a good idea, but we were barely getting enough juice from the battery to even turn the engine.. i'll try to remember that for next time though!

sorry bud, one letter off there.. they're collecting DUST if anything.. none of our cars have a speck of rust.. i guess you aren't too familiar with cars in the southern states.. our cars are rust free here..

and i hate when people say im rich.. if anything, we have quite a bit of money worth of ASSETS, but as far as being able to go out and write a check for a new ferrari.. sorry, aint happenin.
