So I Ummmm... Almost Destroyed My Car Today

Well the ground was pretty wet from the rain the night before and i was running late to school. I was going pretty fast tryin to get there on time when the upcoming light tuned yellow. like i said, i was going pretty fast, but i stepped on the brake but i just slid!!! So then very quickly, to get through it, i slammed her into 2nd and gave it about 1/2 to 3/4 throttel. As soon as i did that, my car went sideways, going through the whole intersection that way with the momentium still going foreward haha. Once i was through, i let off and it immediatly regained controll.

I cant imagine what the people waiting for the light thought when they saw a car going sideways through an intersection at 35mph.

WTF was up with my trac controll though!? I think that needs to be checked out, bucause it was on and it shouldnt have let my car do that.

Well, since mustangs aren't the most sophisticated cars in the world, on slick surfaces there will be a small delay before the T/C kicks in. Especially when you give some good gas.

Once you do one dumb thing it tends to settle you down..i was a bit carless once and thats all it took for me to stop. And my trac didnt come on either i think when you go so far into a spin or slide it doesnt do much.

i took a road course racing class last summer for the BMW M3 Junior Series, in washington. I learned all about the physics of a car and how to react in almost every situation. Surprisingly, a 1998 BMW M3 reacts quite similar to a 99-04 mustang gt... give or take some tire slip (gt) around fast corners.

Well, to the point. People dont realize that regaining controll of an out of controll automobile is actually not impossible... if sliding sideways, with momentium still going foreward, all you need to do is let off the accel and the car will actually straighten its self out for you. Most people will push the break, give it more gas, or turn the wheel in the desired direction. Well all of those will put you even more out of control.

Road racing has saved my dodge dakota also... there was ice on the ground and i was turning left. I started sliding (about 10 mph) foreward, towards cars waiting on a green... all you do is floor it and completely turn the wheel... your cal will 180 or 360, still going with the foreward momentium, but it will slow the momentium down quite considerably... saved my truck an accident, stopped about 5 feet to the right of a sitting car, of what would have been a head on if i would have pressed the breaks.

I'm by no means promoting this, but what i am saying is, if you'll never amature road race (most likely not lol), then go to a parking lot, in every weather condition... set up cones and learn your car... it might just save you someday.
