do you mean the SN95 style cobra? or foxbody? I dont know about the Cobra R. but The GNX compared to any normal Mustang (LX, GT, SVO) and some older cobra, the GNX runs away with the golden trophey

The fox body. I was trying to stick to something close to the same production years as the GN's. I looked around and tried to find some times on either of these cars in stock form. Couldn't find more than 1 or 2 of each that claimed to be stock. The GN #'s ranged from 13.0x - 14.xx... The Notchback 5.0's were claiming 12.9x - mid 13's.

You know where to get any reliable times for either car. I was looking on dragtimes.

Didn't the GNX compete with even the vette back in 86?

"The Grand Nationals and T-Types were the fastest production cars made in America for 1986 and 1987 (which really made the Corvette owners mad)."

The GNX out performed the Corvette... funny how their own company hurt themselves..

i heard somewhere that's why they quit making them - they didn't want a car that would outperform GM's flagship; the corvette

well they only made 547 GNX's, so the corvette was actually driven to its potential more, i'd say

I never compared them stock to stock. I compared the two cars as they were on the street, modified, stock whatever, basically the way they showed up at the line or street light waiting to race. The Mustang was the cars we heard roaring down the block and was consistently the winner.

I mentioned the Mustang is 600 pounds lighter and more aerodynamic. I also stated that all a lightly modded Mustang would need to beat a Grand national is a good driver and a five speed. We are really comparing the Grand national, not the GNX being that they are so pampered and many leave them stock. One guy tried it though and I said this:

"If you do want to compare apples to apples in the late eightees, early nineties as you said.. You go buy a $29,000 Buick and I will buy a $14,000 Mustang LX 5.0. With the extra $15,000 I have saved, I will go with a set of ported & polished heads, cam, intake, Paxton Novi, tremec 5-speed, short throw shifter, line lock, centerforce dual friction clutch, larger throttle body, larger mass air, bigger injectors, traction bars, slicks, full exhaust & gears. Out of pitty, I might give you the extra $2000 I have left to purchase a new pair of doors that I just blew off," lol

I should say there are plenty of Mustang guys on the site, they just haven't seen the post yet and how it has become a battle as to which car reigns supreme on the street where anything goes. I do know there are a lot of Mustang owners & enthusiasts on the forum.

They run on boost and aren't hard to make much faster than stock.
