Auto Insurance Question

Well where I live we got hit by Ernesto pretty bad (maybe not so much hit bad but where I live turns into a pond when it rains)...And well my mustang did not fare so well...My motor is now hydrolocked...Long story short I have decided to go through the Geico to get it fixed...They are inspecting it on Tuesday and then we are gonna go from there...

The Claims Adjuster was talking a lot about the possibility that my car could be totaled because of this...He said that there is really no way to know what else it messed up other then the engine...He was also talking about putting a motor out of a rear-ended mustang or something like that...Is there anything I can do about this? I love my car but I have heard after the car has had water damage like that; that the car is never the same...Is that true?

Also doesn't the total cost of the labor and parts have to total 51% or more of the cars assessed value then they total it...Is that true? How much does a dealer normally charge for engine replacement? (I can find out tomorrow but was just wanting to know tonight so that I can sleep, Yeah not been sleeping very much since friday becuase of this)

Also to top this all off I leave for a deployment for the sandbox on Wednesday...

Any help will be greatly appreciated...

Chris

I had some body damage a couple years ago in my Mustang after Isabelle. I filed the claim with my insurance and it was repaired under my comprehensive (act of God). Granted, my damage wasn't nearly as bad as you are describing.

If they total the car, many insurance companies will let you buy the car back and you can repair it, but the downside is that the car will have a Salvage title on it, and depending on your state, you may or may not be able to register it.

Or just have liability-only insurance on it.

I have to let you buy it back. I would not let them put in a used motor in it. Make them put in a new one. If they total it, buy it back and put in a 351 motor.

Yeah I am not letting them put in used parts...I have a feeling I am going to be fighting Geico like crazy bu they are either going to do a new engine swap or total my vehicle out...If they total it since I make payments on the vehicle they will take it to action...They are going to want more then I am willing to give for a car that is in the state that it is now...We really dont know what else that water did to the car...

Tell them you will fix it for less or you will take less to settle. Can't total it then
