You could try that. Also check to see if your fw is allowing it. Although most fw's pop up a dialog box asking you if you want to allow it after the install.

when i was installing on ym new laptop today, i had to use the aim version 5.5 becaseu the new one wouldnt work. i had the same problems. maybe its becuase of firefox

Come to think of it, Doc, Aim was being cunty for me last night, it kept disconnecting while I was in a group chat with the guys, so finally I got tired of fucking with it and left it off.
