Almost Died Today - Spun Out on Route 295

Man...

I almost died today with my girlfriend in the passenger seat. I was coming off the ramp to enter Route 295, which speed limit is 65mph [but everyone obviously speeds on it].

It was wet out, just started raining. My driver's ed class always taught me that the first 30 minutes of rainfall is the most dangerous, and hell yeah it is.

So I just got off the ramp, yielded, saw two cars a good way coming, went off the ramp and started turning on Route 295. I was going like 30mph and all of a sudden just spun out.

My whole car went to the right, nose totally to the right almost hitting the metal wall. I was jerking the wheel as I was spinning to try to control and stop it, constantly switching between the brake and the gas pedal. Avoided the metal wall miraculously by maybe an inch and still spun to the middle of 295 as the cars were coming still and I was just going side to side...still trying to regain control of the car.

Finally stop totally sideways instead of facing the direction you're supposed to be going, the car and I were facing the metal wall I almost hit, COMPLETELY STOPPED. The cars were approaching and steady speeds and I thought we were dead because it was cloudy and rainy. My car wouldn't function at all, and all my check engine lights on my dashboard etc were lit.

I turned it off to restart hit hoping I could get out of the way in time. LUCKILY the car coming was able to brake and didn't hit my passenger side...we were so close to death I couldn't believe it.

I was able to restart my car and drive away from it, though my driving leg was shaking the entire trip home because of the experience. I'm glad in the sense that we weren't hurt and that I was able to jerk the wheel and switch between the brake and gas pedals effectively to avoid that medal wall because boy we were close to hitting it, and I mean it.

I'm pretty pissed, though. I mean, we almost died. It was a pretty scary experience.

Now I really realize I need new tires [even though I just bought the car]. It's had this problem because the tires don't have ANY tread..now I really realize that I need new tires immediately so hopefully that doesn't happen again. It felt like we were on ice when there was NO black ice, just rain and my car's crappy tires.

I find it mature for you to mention something you learned from drivers ed. Thats cool man. If more people listened and payed attention to that stuff we'd have safer roads.

Good job with the skills keeping yourself safe. I'm sure you wont let that happen again.... get those tires! I dont know what your budget is like but I had Goodyears on my ride and they were bald and worthless. I purchased some Hankooks and they handle outstanding in wet pavement.

Yeah I had Hankooks on my old car and they were great, especially during the rain...no difference at all to me! I'll be looking into them once again.

I've had this happen twice.. it was always my left leg (clutch foot).. shaking uncontrollably.
One of the times was the FIRST DAY i had my mustang (just finished learning stick and was still figuring it out).. i ALMOST t-boned a truck (was only going like 15 or something).. because i was coming out of a parking lot and tried to brake.. honest to god i have no idea what i did, but the car kept going forward.. i finally jammed in both clutch and break and the car stalled lol.. thank GOD i didn't hit that truck. But my clutch leg was shaking the rest of the way home.
