Keeping black...

Clean. How hard is it really? Im in the process of looking for a new car (GT) and I want one of two colors. Either charcoal gray or black. I love charcoal gray, but I love the way black looks. Everyone says black is SOO hard to keep clean, but in reality, how hard is it?

its a little more work. my bro has a black 02 and i have a silver 01. black shows the dirt a lot faster than my silver does, he is always pissed because my car always looks cleaner. but black is soo sexy when its clean. his car also gets hella hot too, so u might want to invest in some window tint with heat rejection material in it.

I had a black 03 GT. It isn't that much harder to keep clean.

The thing about black is you have to use the SOFTEST microfiber towls you can find, and microfiber sponges. Also have to use the 2 bucket method when washing. It's not so much the scratches that are bad on black it is the swirel marks. I had a shadow great mach1 and it was hard to keep clean as well.

I do agree black is the best looking on a car when clean.

It's harder until you learn some tips that work for you. Then it's not harder than other colors, maybe a bit more work.

I start off by clay barring my car once in the spring. Then I put a coat of Meguiars Gold Class on it. I normally use an Esso touchless car wash to keep it clean, and when I do it by hand I use the Mr. Clean Autodry system. As long as you keep fresh filters in it, and keep the gun in good shape, it works flawlessly. It will not leave one spot on your car if done correctly, and you don't have to touch the car at all to dry it.

Then throughout the rest of the season I use Ultra Finish, which is a paint polish, not a wax. It's a one step product, and works amazing. You simply put a bit on a terry cloth or mf cloth, and rub back & forth until it's gone. It removes swirl marks, tar, minor scratches, and really shines the paint up well. The better you keep black paint waxed & protected the less it spots and the longer it stays clean.

After time, will the black color fade? Because in pictures, it looks like all of the '01s and around there are all lighter shades of black as compared to the newer stangs shade of black. Maybe its just the picture...

good luck with the black. if you live in washington, good luck keeping it clean... mine seriously looks good for 1 day after i wash it, then its either covered in dust, pollen, or rain spots. it looks beautiful when its clean though

they probably just haven't been waxed recently. mine was pretty light when i bought it but wax took care of it right away. in fact, i've even had people ask me if its been repainted.

If the paint has not been waxed and taken care of properly, yes it will fade. But so can red, blue, green....

I've never wanted a black car... still don't want one... I'm more of a Greysh/silver or Blue person.
