Beginning to rank for some keywords. Interesting Results.

We're, I'm sure, ranking somewhere in the top 1000 for other keywords I haven't thought of, but, for now here is where we stand for some of them:

Modded Mustangs
  • Google = 20
    Yahoo = 21
    MSN = 26

Mustang Calculators
  • Google = --
    Yahoo = --
    MSN = 13

Mustang Forums
  • Google = --
    Yahoo = --
    MSN = 33 (wahoo, wasnt even going for this but now I want MF's spot!

Mustang Rides
  • Google = --
    Yahoo = 146
    MSN = 178

Mustang Tech
  • Google = --
    Yahoo = --
    MSN = 39

Tech Articles
  • Google = --
    Yahoo = --
    MSN = --

Obviously search engine results mean alot to forum growth. Getting in the top 10 for search engine results means ALOT, and getting the top spot is like hitting the lotto. Google is not listing us for hardly anything because they penalize new sites. MSN we're ranking the best in because they apparently don't look at a sites age. Yahoo is in between.

I've gotten some great pointers from Fallstar01 here on the forum. I'm going to be following his advice and hopefully over the upcoming months things will continue to improve.

Whats interesting is that we ranked for "mustang forums" already, which wasn't even a targeted keyword (didn't think we could compete yet, but heh I guess so).

Well, theirs alot of factors. Not more posts necessarily, but more quality posts with good titles and useful information is helpful. For Google, it's mostly backlinks from other sites with good anchor text. If you want to help, put a ModdedMustangs link in your signature on other forums, making sure you have an anchor text.

Two helpful ones are:
Modded Mustangs
or
Mustang Forums

The code for this would be:
Code:
[url=http://www.moddedmustangs.com/]Modded Mustangs[/url]
or
[url=http://www.moddedmustangs.com/forums/]Mustang Forums[/url]
The more people posting links like this, the more it will help. Also, making quality posts on the forum. I take this very seriously, so you don't have to. If you want to support the site, this is just something you can do. Nobody will be rewarded for doing it, nor will anybody be looked down upon for not. Just enjoy your stay here and be proud to be a member, that alone will make my day.

Please note that this only helps if they won't ban you for it Putting it in you car domain page, or personal webpages can help as well. Another thing is to link to the articles as they become available (preferably labeling the link so that it describes what the article is about) which is something that is safe to do, helps out Modded Mustangs, and can help out the people you are responding to, all at the same time.

We don't spam, nor should anyone spam. Having a signature link endorsing a place you support is a great thing, pointing someone to a good post or article is a helpful thing for both sites, but don't go randomly posting links at random places. Other mustang sites are a good place to have a signature link, so long as it isn't against their rules.

You can post a link here to anyplace you want, I don't mind as long as its not from a new member who's sole purpose is to spam.

I just wanted to note while we are on this subject that I am incredibly jealous of www.theonion.com for ranking number 1 for the word "the"

Well mustangforums will just bleep it out of my sig there as you already know. And I don't have a car domain. I can make it my sig on svtperformance for ya though, and I don't think they would mind. Oh well, I'll give it a shot. Anything else we can do? We really need more members to make good posts. Or we can all act like idiots looking for help on every topic that has to do with our cars (even problems we don't have) for a while and have someone post good responses till we get more people. Then we can help the newbies out (ironic, coming from a newbie. lol). I dunno, just an idea.

Just an idea, but would it help us out on the "mustang forums" if we actually used the words instead of MF when we post about it? If so, that should work pretty quick since Mustang Forums is a pretty commonly spoken word over here.

I have it in my sig on a couple of sites, even on camaroz28 dot com. Everyone has been cool about it so far. I need to change them to anchor text though.

BTW, thanks for posting up HOW to do that Joe. You know I would be asking ya later!

Another BTW for Fallstar here... theoninion.com I used to ride in a fairly large motorcycle club in California and we had this one guy that quoted all kinds of stuff from the onion... then one day we didn't see him anymore. A few weeks later we saw his picture in the paper and a article about him being charged for a few counts of murder... was a good guy and we never saw that coming. Sorry... I'm hella tired and the onion.com made me think about that... back on topic!

Yeah, but its usually in a bad way... if google linked a potentially new member straight to a Mustang Forums bashing thread then that may lower (or raise) their want to join our boards. I dunno, I'm tired.

it is great to see the site growing. i am working on some tech articles alongside another member with a similar issue so we can build the FAQ/user submitted article seciton. he is making an article on fixing a problem; i am making an article on a proposed solution to "recreate" the area that suffered the problem. confusing- but you can check out the FAQ section or the V6 section for more details (still a work in progress)

i think the members here really like the site and get along great with each other, so the site is destined for success. with some tweaking and time, our links and backlinks will spread across the net making Modded Mustangs the best Mustang Forum on the net.

On another note, we got our 2nd #1 keyword ranking today.

On Yahoo we rank #1 for "modded mustangs"
Back up to #5 for "modded mustangs" on Google

What we need to do is post relevant threads as often as possible. Off-topic stuff is fun but it doesn't help. Actually posting threads with everything from part numbers, pics links, questions, ideas, fixes, instructions, and comments all help. For the place to jump up, you need to provide quick response to threads.

This is why the "View all unanswered" function is so important. Also, submitting content to Joe will help out alot as well.

We don't rank for it, but likely will rank in a few months. We won't likely rank competitively for that term for a long time, but hopefully will. We're dancing all around right now, looks like an update may be coming soon. One hour we rank #3 on Google for "modded mustangs", the next minute we drop out of the top 1,000. We're doing great, really fast too, on Yahoo and MSN.
