Twins

As a lot of you know I am expecting twins, one boy and one girl. Well... I am no longer expecting twins... My girlfriend and I went to our second ultrasound yesterday morning and found out that the girl's heart had stopped beating. We saw a specialist this morning who deals with high risk pregnancies and he estimates that the girl actually died within a few days of our first ultrasound (about 4 weeks ago). The reason for her death is unknown...

Don't really know what else to say... it's just very upsetting.

I'm really sorry to hear that man. I hope your girlfriend isn't traumatized too badly or for too long. I know how hard these things are on moms to be.

Thanks for the support guys. It really helps a lot. It's hard enough on me to deal with this, but my girlfriend is EXTREMELY upset. I'm trying to support her as much as I can, but I can only do so much (I wish I could do more...).

I just hope that the death of the girl doesn't effect how the boy will develope. Or effect Madi (<------ my girlfriend) to the point to where we have to decide on Madi living, or the boy living. When we spoke with the specialist, he said since they were fraternal twins, that the death of one shouldn't have much (if any) effect on the other, as opposed to identical twins where if one goes, the other usually does. That being the case, he said he is going to leave the girl in Madi until she's ready to deliver, unless it's starts causing problems. At which point they will perform a C-section and remove the girl, and possibly bring the boy out early depending on how far along Madi is in the pregnancy.

The boy is very healthy (thank god). When they did the ultrasound this morning they checked heart beat, measured length of all the limbs and size of torso & head, and they also measured the blood flow in the umbilical cord. Everything was perfect. They also said since the girl has been dead for about a month now, there was a very small chance that her death would interfere with the boys growth since nothing has happened yet. Hopefully it stays that way. I think Madi and I both would be devistated if anything were to happen to the boy (his name is Luke BTW).

Lord God, ever caring and gentle, we commit to Your love this little one, quickened to life for so short a time. Enfold them in eternal life. We pray for their parents who are saddened by the loss of their child. Give them courage and help them in their pain and grief. May they all meet one day in the joy and peace of Your kingdom. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen

Busher, that is some upsetting news. My heartfelt sympathy to you, your girlfriend, and your unborn son. I hope everything works out for the best and that this will turn out to be something that makes your family stronger in the end.

I couldn't imagine the half of what you are both going through, and I just want to let you know my thoughts are with you.
