new challenger srt8
This may belong in the clubhouse section but if so the mods can move it.
I got my issue of auto week recently and it had an article about the new challenger srt8. This may be old news to everyone but its the first hard numbers i have seen on it. In short the article said that the car would have the 6.1 litre hemi, it weighs 4140, 425hp @6200, 420lb tq at 4200. its only comeing in an automatic They said it would do 0-60 in 5.2 and a mid to high 13 second 1/4. So basically its about the same as a stang for a 40,158 sticker. 6400 being built for 08 and hitting dealers in may. Like I thought....... more hype then anything. Pretty sad when a stock 4.6 litre is a little faster than your 6.1 litre $40,000 car. I cant wait to smoke one of these suckers, not to mention a new camaro. |

they'll be able to do high 12's stock just like the other srt-8's, but with the big hemi the power potential with mods is going to be insane.
oh and they're suspension and stopping power will be better then our cars too.

well i seen a bolt-on SRT chargers hit high 11's at the track, and a few hit low-mid 12's. stock ones usually hit low 13's, but very capable of high 12's with a decent driver.

They finally allowed a little bit of tuning. You can use a predator on the them.

I have looked into the challenger a bit at the local Dodge place, and at least in my area, it looks like it will be going the way of the Shelby's for a while. The dealership has one coming in a couple months and has already got it sold for $62K. Not worth it unless it comes down IMHO.

07, wettin pants is a bit much, enthusiastic about the competition that is about to be is more like it.
I've created what I consider to be my ultimate mustang, and I love the car, but I'll have a challenger in my stable. I'll wait for the highly anticipated 525hp 6.4 hemi due in early production 09 with a manual. Prices are raising with all manufacturers, the Challenger in it's stock state has more potential than any GT with it's week azz modular 3v motor. Granted the car comes with some cost, but being able to comfortably build on that car is well worth it. Would you not pay an extra 4500 to 5k to have a forged 5.4 tucked in between the fenders of your GT? Add to that - that Dodge is bringing in a solid suspension and brake package due to the weight and I gotta say they played this out perfectly. Going to have to wait out the premiums being done just like the gt500 did over the last year and change.. In the end I think we'll be offering a bit more respect to this car than we are currently. |

I got to disagree with you really. I understand what your saying and to each his own. But with a starting sticker of 41, your looking at 45 for a loaded model. A loaded gt is going to run you about 30. For fifeteen grand on top of that you could literally turn this stang into a race car, suspension, brakes, and engine wise. You will always have the 600plb weight advantage on the challenger. Upgradeing the brakes on these mustangs is not that expensive, nor is taking the suspension to the next level.
Oh well i guess this just reminds me why im a mustang fan to begin with. It really is the only affordable muscle car and it looks like it will continue to be. It just doesnt make financial sense to pay that much for a car that you want to modify. For 45 grand you should be able to leave it alone. Dodge doesnt get it here. The biggest part of the muscle car market is about guys who want to modify their car. thats too much money. they should have came out with a 30 model for guys to start with. It wont be around for long and then the MBA's in the ivory tower of chrysler will say they planned it like that to have limited production. Yea right. always good business plan to not want to sell to many of them. I think one thing we can all agree on is that the Mustang will stay on top when it comes to sales. Which creates such a huge aftermarket world for the car. Let me ask you this emay, if you were going to start a performance parts shop how many parts would you stock, develop or manufacture for this $45,000 limited production car. Im with you though on the competition aspect of this. Im excited to see these on the road and the new camaro. But with that sticker Ill see about as many of them as i see GT500's. And that aint many on saturday night. |

To be honest local shop wise, I wouldn't stock a thing. Like nearly all performance shops it's an order only deal, and if a major manufacturer doesn't jump at this car with aftermarket parts, you can bet some small mom and pop company will fab, machine, and develop - and probably make their name doing so. If ATI, Whipple or Kenne Bell rolled a kit charger out I see plenty of the Dodge enthusiasts diggin in and building some serious Challengers. Unlike you, I'm not a hard core Mustang guy, If I had it my way I'd have one of everything. I'm just a former hardcore Chevy guy with no ties to any one manufacturer anymore. Each has their problems, each has their plus sides, and each can be made into whatever you want it to be. In my area this Challenger will be everywhere without question. I've got several first available gt500's (apparent snobs within just a couple of blocks of me with huge premiums attached 75K+). I'm positive the local hot spots here will have a couple of Challengers in the lot on any givin night. Mainly just for the googling that most will do over the early ownership, not because they are enthusiasts of any kind. Kinda sucks how that happens, but whatcha gonna do. Without ranting on and speculating, I'm flat out interested in how it will all play out.. I plan on having one, not a first year, or early production second year. Gonna let the bugs get worked out.. We'll all have a pretty good idea of how these things fair by then. Last edited by Emay; February 18th, 2008 at 09:04 AM. |

the only thing that bothers me of these new cars coming out is their weight... 4200 lbs??? and what is the camaros weight? about the same?
they r trying to counter weight with a big motor and high hp, all i hope is with the high hp to get those low 1/4 times that u have traction. even then it should be a b*tch when u get reallly high in numbers. all the imports are staying low in weight and when boosted it doesnt matter what size ur motor is ur gonna make the power.(if ur block can handle it) the challenger and camaro i believe will be around 1000lbs more than the gts. we see a similar comparison of weight vs power with a z06 and a gt500. i have seen a gt500 with 150 more hp and still lose, (it wasnt the driver mod). obviously you want more power and lighter weight. i feel that if the aftermarket isnt great like it was with the dodge chargers, they are now creating fi that is somewhat secure. yes some people already have it but they did the gamble of experimenting which some dont have the cash to do. the weight is wat will hold these cars back. but it will do well in the collector guys, and definitely the gangstar type pple that will throw some 22s on it. all in all should be interesting |
