Take your asvab and go to all the recruters. They will tell you what you scored high enough for but dont be pissed about this hole getting "sent over". And if it sounds to good to be true it is. Active, Guard and Reserve does not matter...cant speak for all the branchs but the AF is on a permanent cycle of deploying.

They use an AEF Cycle...Every 18 months your bucket is a go...If you get chosen for your bucket you deploy... I volunteered for my deployments/tdys... I know of alot of guys that didnt deploy for well over 8 years... But deploying is not that bad and you should not fear what you can not control...Just do your job and come home... |

AEF cylce includes all there..The reserve/guard does not use the same AEF number system that acitve uses. We get an AEF number every other year. Once they get assianged an AEF it is all volunteer. But like i said it depends on who you are with and what you do...EX We have gotten 3 AEFs in the last 4yrs there is "talk" about not doing it on a a voulunteer due to some continuing to deny going.

I dont understand how people could turn down a deployment...If you dont go that means someone else has to...
I would rather deploy then to have the burden that I made another human do a job I refused to do... I have far to mush pride for that... |

but if you are insistent on joining the miltary...join the Navy and aim to be a submariner. you'll never see Iraq or Iran for that matter as a submariner. and you'll be a member of one of the world's most elite military units. I rank the military elite as follows. Navy SEALS (some bad ass mo fo's) Delta Force (on par with the Navy Seals) Marine Force RECON US Navy Submarine Fleet (these guys can't even communicate with their families while they are at sea, and they are underwater for periods of 90 days or longer) US Army Green Berets US Army Rangers US Marines US Army US Navy US Air Force (flyboys, but i like the afterburners on their jets )US Coast Guard (pussies)

communicating with family has come a long way. when i was on the boat, we had a system in place that allowed you to send off email and receive it. it didn't always work right, and sometimes we couldn't use it at all because of the type of operations we were on. but if my wife sent me 10 emails and i got 1, i was ecstatic. our ballistic missile boats go on patrols, typically for 90 days. sometimes they're shorter, sometimes they're longer, but not by much. the amount of time a submarine can operate submerged and without support is limited only by the amount of food we can carry. fast attack boats like i was on will deploy for 6 months, sometimes a little longer. you're not submerged the whole time. there are scheduled liberty ports and usually one upkeep period usually lasting about 2 weeks. all of that of course depends on tasking. the longest amount of time i spent underway was 75 days, 73 of which was submerged... i remember something my first CO told me: he told me that there were actually more SEALs in the Navy than submariners. yeah, it's that small a community, but it's more like a brotherhood. you meet some weird guys, but most of them will become like brothers... |

i met a couple of Coasties when i was at Blackwater. there was a little friendly shit talking back and forth, but those guys were pretty cool. i learned a lot ablout the kind of stuff the Coast Guard actually does. it gave me a newfound respect for Coasties. i'll still call 'em Puddle Pirates, but it's all in good fun. i wouldn't expect anything less than being called a Squid or a Bubblehead in return...

Each "elite unit" as you put it is superior in their own way....Anyone who served in what ever service is as much a pussy as you are for saying that ...this post is about a kid whos not sure if he should sign up or not...
