Valet Parking Anyone?
Last night I took the wifey out for sushi. We go to this place often and they have valet parking. I don't usually drive the Stang, but I felt a little racey last night so decided to drive it to the sushi resturant. I pulled into the parking lot and the usual same 2 guys come immediately out to greet me. They know that I am a good tipper and require that my car(s) be parked out front away from the other cars so I don't get any dumb valet door dings. I hand the guy 10 bucks and tell him to take care of my car. He is ewing and awing and asking about the car in his broken English (He's Mexican). We come out after dinner and the valet guy rushes towards us, escorts my wife over to the passenger side, and opens the door for her. She gets in and he shuts the door. I'm trailing him a little, but I walk up to the passenger side of my car and extend my hand to him for the keys and give him another 5 bucks. He says, hold it, I need to get the keys. He runs around to the drivers side and reaches on top of the left front tire and says, oh I must have hung the keys up. He has to walk over to the other side of the lot to retrieve the keys off of the key board. As he is holding my keys and begins to walk towards me, I notice that he is pressing the buttons on my remote as if to unlock the car over and over. I'm not sure why he is doing this as my wife is sitting in the car and my car was clearly unlocked from the very beginning. Suddenly he must have hit the remote start sequence buttons on the remote and my car starts up and takes off in gear and starts driving itself with my wife sitting in the passenger seat helpless. The guy had left the car in gear without the E-brake engaged. The car is driving across the lot and I manage to get the drivers door open and slip myself into the seat, but before I can engage the brakes, the car drives into the side of the resturant building. People come running out of the resturant thinking that there is a earthquake. This is a very busy resturant and ther must have been 10 witnesses in the parking lot. You could see everyone's faces in aw. I'm pissed to say the least. I restart the car and back it out off of the wall and out of the planter. All this Valet could say was, "I do nothing" over and over again. I'm furious! You fucking idiot, why are you pressing the buttons on my remote over and over again? And why are you leaving my car in gear without the E-Brake on? All he could say was, "I do nothing". Shit my wife was in the car you moron! My wife was quite shook up to say the least. I ask the guy for his information and he can't even read and write. I went into the resturant and asked for the manager and the hostess asks me why and what it's about? It's about the hole in the wall of your resturant you idiot! And don't attempt to screen me when I ask for your manager you bitch. The manager comes out proceeds to tell me that the valet service is not the resturants and are not employed by the resturant. Okay, now I've had it! I want your name, the name of the Valet service company, the name of the rocket man who parked my car and the owners name of this resturant. And if I don't have this info in the next 5 minutes, I will call the cops and you will experience the loudest rant this resturant has ever heard. I will not put up with everyone pointing the finger at the others to shuck the responsibilty of this. Suddenly the manager became very compliant and supplied me with all of my requested info. Yea, I'm sure all you guys are going to jump on the remote start and all of the negatives in having one on your car. Where I miscalculated, was valet parking the car. That's where I blew it. I just didn't think that some non English speaking moron would continually press the buttons on my remote when the car was clearly unlocked to begin with. Okay, I'm gonna go cry now.

Someone's liable. Whether it'd be the restaurant that gave the okay for the people to have a valet business or the valet business itself (if it is inded a business and not a bunch of kids parking cars for money). GET A LAWYER....SOON. If there are witnesses like you stated...then it's all over for someone. And hopefully that kid has his green card, because if not he's going back to mexico/cuba.

Man, that has to be the biggest ass-whooping I would have ever given if that had happened to me. Get a lawyer and sue that company's ass for all their worth. They shouldn't let people who don't know how to speak English (or handle keys, for that matter) do that job in the first place. Someone would have died that night, and that's all there is to it. My heart goes out to ya, man.

You can bet if they have a good lawyer this will be brought and probably thrown out of court. I hope not for your sake but i have a gut feeling

The bad news is that if the resturant (and maybe valet parking outfit) gets a slick enough lawyer they may come after you. Having a remote start system that permits the car to start in gear is bad thing waiting to happen--and letting a moron valet have the keys without advising them of the potential hazard will be thrown up as negligence on your part. BTW-most valet parking services are not employees of the restaurant or hotel, nor do they generally have even a contractual relationship--this isolates the restaurant or hotel from liability. In the last, is your enter key broken--see how much easier it is to read with paragraphs?

Wow that really sucks! It may be a good idea to install a switch to disable the remote start for situations where others may drive your car. I always try to avoid valet at all costs when in the mustang. Valet guys are shady. If i know i will have to valet I can flash a valet tune onto my car with a 3000rpm limiter and a 65mph speed limiter. I also tell them that the car is not tuned and will blow up if they drive it hard (it wont, but its worth a shot to scare them from test driving it)

Just an FYI, Remote starts are not illegal, In fact Ford, Chevrolet, Toyota, Mercedes and other automobile manufacturers all sell factory remote start installation kits for all of their models.

that sucks dude. I'm sorry, but i did laugh a little. At least you're ok.
Though I don't know anything about those remote start thingies, who would park a manual car without the e-brake? That's just asking for your car to accidentally roll away. Or worse in this case =\

Im going to sound like an idiot, I didnt think you could remote start a 5 speed due to the clutch. Even when the car started wouldnt it die, as in when someone lets it out too fast or something. Feel stupid but im baffled haha.

I agree, i dont think it would work all that well. And since the clutch switch would have to be switched for it to start i dont understand how this works!

First off VALET means you pull up to the front door exit car then the valet goes and parkes the car then after dinner you come out they meet you at the door with your car, how did the car get to the door without keys?

... why did you move the car!!!
fuck man thats really going to slow down the court process... if a car puts a whole in the side of a building you need to call the cops right away... OR take pictures to prove that your car was inside a building... good luck man

i dont know what i would have done in that situation but glad that no one was hurt! i'm just wondering why were you yelling at the manager for? he wasnt the one driving or messing w/ the keys! were you scared of "i know nothing"? since he was the one at fault! plus, i love my car and dont let anyone drive my car let alone pay someone to park it!
