HD, you're held in my highest regard, but 11 above isn't "cold".

I woke up this morning to -14F actual (none of that sissy wind chill shit for me). It was -20 here one morning a few weeks ago. Been below zero for over 64 hours straight til yesterday when we got up to 3 above. Today we're supposed to hit 11 above, so I might go outside and try and fab up some turn signals on my 4runner.

And I'd post a pic, but my wife and I don't need fireplaces, bonfires, etc... We generate plenty of heat.

I have a gas log set but pretty sure the venting is for real wood so most of the heat goes out of the vent. Have to stand right in front of it to feel the heat.

Turn it around so the insert faces outside and it vents inside. Bam. Warm house.

Why do I feel so sleepy?

Pic? My housing can be used for gas log set or wood but either way it has that vent to blow heat, I just never had the electronics for the vent installed .

No electronics. I think the gas was originally ment to help light the real wood on fire but it's an apartment.

Real wood would burn a lot hotter with real coals. I don't want to fuck around with ashes.

---------- Post added at 09:03 PM ---------- Previous post was at 08:59 PM ----------

The gas log sets at work have a much amaller vent on the sides of the building and have a glass door that stays in place unless you need to service it. Those put out a lot more heat and no electronic fans. My thermostat is across the same room as the fireplace and the thermostat still kicks on. Pretty much just wasting gas.

Ahhh, so it's a wood burning fireplace with gas starter. I was thinking something different.

Yeah, I don't imagine you feel squat with just the gas burner going.

I just deal with the ashes. Hot AF today

I know. Saturday morning I pulled my truck out of the garage at home and it was 8*. We took off and landed in Columbus OH and it was way fucking cold, and then we went to Detroit, and it was the same. Then it was off to Tampa where I was looking forward to some nice shorts weather, and my hotel is out on Clearwater Beach, so I was looking forward to some beach time, but it was 34* yesterday morning, and the wind was blowing 487 mph.

I tell the truth. Deal with it.

I just got back from Minneapolis!

I hold you to a high regard Woodman, but fuck that place.

Gah. That's a different kind of cold. I'd rather have -20 in Colorado than be in that nightmare of humidity and wind and -5.

It's even worse up here in Duluth. Lake Superior (the largest inland sea in North America) is five minutes from my door. We get humidity, wind, etc.

Although, it got up to 11 above yesterday, so I was able to wire up some cheap ass LED turn signal markers to the front end of my beater.

I do often consider moving back to Texas after winter months. It's been mild this winter so far, back in 2013 is was BAD, we had two months straight below zero.
