How do you cite a secondary source?

As stated above. Im writing an essay and im supposed to be citing the source from the textbook. Isnt it something like (Name,Page #)?

And does anyone know anything about critical pedagody? Because im supposed to be writing 10 pages over it but i havent been to class so i have no clue what it is.

well you can either do it in text such as

Robert Jones said "The tree is very big when its hot outside" (56).

or

"The tree is very big when its hot outside" (Jones, 56).

Thats only true if you are only using one source. If you have more than one source you need to footnote each citation.

Also true.

But for some reason none of my college classes have ever used MLA. They all want footnotes. I kinda miss it. It was simpler...

So when citing on a works cited page using a textbook I would have to put the writers name of the essay somewhere in there right?
