you want advice for how to do it? Or you want someone to literally setup up Vista for you?

Which version of Vista did you buy (home premium, ultimate, etc.)? You need at least a gig (I would recommend 2 gigs) of memory to run Home Premium or better. You need 512mb ram to run Vista Basic. Did you buy the upgrade version (this doesn't apply to Vista Basic)? Or the full blown version? If you bought the upgrade...you are going to need the previous GENUINE copy of xp to be able to load the upgrade version of vista. If you want your files, get an external hard drive...save all the files and plug the external back in after the new OS install. Service Pack 1 is out for vista...make sure it installs after the OS install. Let me know if you have any questions about anything.

I skimmed over the post and missed that part. Oops. Yeah...in that case, you're gonna need at least 2 gigs of ram youngin to run ultimate effectively. I'm almost positive you don't even have a gig if your cpu is over 4 years old and didn't upgrade. Depending on how much it would cost to upgrade your computer to run ultimate, you may just want to go out and buy another computer. You payed what $400 for ultimate? That could be $400 towards another machine with ultimate. Let me know your computer specs youngin and I can recommend what would be better for you to do.

What are you looking to erase? Loading the vista disc will uninstall the xp OS. I'm not sure on your saved files, but that's why you should have everything backed up on an external HDD. What kind of processor/motherboard do you have?
