More progress tonight. Got autolite one-step-colder-than-stock spark plugs gapped to .050 and installed them. Put the valve covers on, put the bracket and power steering reservoir back on and hooked it up, put the radiator reservoir back on and hooked it up.

Tomorrow morning on go the coil packs and boots and the intake. Then tomorrow night hopefully my buddy Neil will be over and we can hook my exhaust back up, and then the plenum/tb/intake tube. Fill her up with fluids and fire it up!

My engine:

This is what happens when the car sits in the garage for 2 weeks and you live in the country:

I do have a question though- I didn't put oil on the passenger side cams and stuff before I put the cover on. Chilton's didn't say to, so it's probably not a huge detail, but I've heard it'd be good. Can I pour some in via the PCV tube? I know that's how you're supposed to load up on seafoam... oil not work the same way?
u didn't lube the cam before u installed it?

Thats bad... I would take thecoveroff, take off girdle off and drip oil on the journals. Then repeat for the other cam girdle.

The cams were never taken off the heads... They still rotated with no problem when we were setting up the timing..

I talked to a couple friends of mine and they said it'd be fine since I never took the cams off and they were used.

Status: COMPLETE!!!!

With one minor issue. Does something go in that thing poking out the back of the tb? There's nothing around the back that plugs in there...

Nevermind, I found it. Looked at one of the pictures I took while taking it apart and found out what the deal was

Exhaust going back on now and tonight, and then we'll see if she still breathes!

Cause I'm lazy and not concerned about looks I got the exhaust on just now (by myself... that was fun...) so I just have to run to the store and get some more coolant and after work I'll fire her up.

Chiltons says to unplug the spark plugs, leave fuel system off and turn the engine over a bit to build up oil pressure before actually firing the engine... Anyone heard of this?

Just building up fuel pressure. Turned it off after letting it run a while and it fired right back up no problem.

Seems a bit smoother like casper said when he did his cam swap. Didn't really romp on it (just took it out for a test spin to make sure everything was alright). I got on it a bit in 2nd and 3rd and I can definitely feel a difference
