Jack Points

so is the rear gear an ok jack point? Im starting to get worried because my dad threw the floor jack under the rear gear to get the rearend up to do the driveshaft and now I go out side today after school and theres a few dropplets of oil comming from my gear...

How bad is this and if it does become serious is it hard to change the oil back there?

he threw it under the pumpkin?? ehh itll be fine... its better to have two on the axle housings near where the springs attach but itll be fine where it is

he put the floor jack under the girdle yes. there were a few dropplets coming from there and it was an orangy color oil.

thast what I tried to tell him. He said itll be fine. I wanted to do it on an arm near the rear axle but no we had to do it his way...

tell him that he will be replacing the gasket when it seperates and gets gear oil all over the place

it's not the best idea to jack there.

and how much should this other problem cost me?

about a $5.00 tube of rtv to try and seal the leak.
if it won't seal your going to have to pull the cover and make a new gasket (with the same rtv)

and that means you need more gear oil.

I HAVE RTV!!!

I have some from the tranny shop. He gave it to me and said seal the shifter with this.

Should i go do this NOW or should I wait til lmorning?

napa autozone or o'riellys can get you a new gasket... the reason that you don't jack under the pumpkin is its a really unstable point

Yeha i figured that. I mean to me it seemed stupid to jack it form there but he insisted and did it himself

alright. how long do you think itll take for it to seal correctly? I was litterally about to go a run some erunds untill I saw that oil

dry up all the oil and make sure it's clean.

put rtv on there ( get it in there good)
wait 15-25 minutes until it gets tacky than tighten the bolts a little.
wait another 20 or so and finish tightening the bolts.

I took the jack back, haha. Decided to go with ramps. Might take those back aswell. Im so indecisive when it comes to buying tools and such for my car.

It would help if I knew more about it, haha. I did but a 148 piece tool set that im going to keep! haha.
