71 Boss?


no one is in the classic section so ill post it in here with hope of reply's

ok so my grandpa has a 71 mustang that has been sitting in his garage rusting away and such for 20 years. We are finally thinking of restoring it . But i am confused on some of the information that i have found and what my grandpa has said. He says that it is a 302 boss. But from what i have found on the internet the boss' only came in a 351. So i am at a loss of words on what is right.....

ok so that site that i read on the internet was false then. Thanks guys.

Btw, what do you think the hp was back in the day. The only mod that i know about is that it was bored .030 over. There is probably a few more but that is all i know

the 69 boss 302 was rated 290 HP and same with the 70 boss 302

as far as a 302 from 71, it was either a 2v 210HP with 9.1:1 compression or a 4v 290HP with 9.4:1 compression

"71 Boss 302 was a cancelled program but some pre-production cars got out, you may have one or you may have a 351/2B with a 302 conversion

yeah if its a true 1971 boss the original motor wouldve been a 351

No Bosses with 429 though. Boss program limited to 302/351 to compete directly in Trans Am with Camaro/Firebird. Actually once they ended program in '71 they threw the 351 in there, no TA 351's allowed on track

both 1969 and 1970 had a boss 4V 429 rated at 375 HP

Stock Boss 351 had 2bbl, very starnge but produced some 235 ftlbs torque in 3400 lb body so it would go. "71 was already the end of the muscle car era for awhile so not unusual for a 2bbl to be stock on a Boss.
