i had king of a bad day at work yesterday. i'm working at the Sub Base in King's Bay, GA right now. it involves some degree of hazardous waste generation. even though the company hired me as a quality assurance inspector, they usually use a qai for this type of job to be the Hazardous Material Waste Coordinator. so we had this bag of lead chips that needed to be loaded into a 55 gallon drum. it was put on a pallet and brought to our drum on a forklift. the barrel was about 3/4 full and the bag of lead would have allowed me do close out that barrel and open another. the forklift brought the pallet over and raised it high enough so that i only had to slide the bag of lead chips into the open barrel. well, as he started to back out, the barrel (which was now really top-heavy) started to tip over. out of pure instinct, i reached out to keep the barrel from falling over. in doing so, i got three fingers caught in between the barrel and the edge of the plastic pallet. in the next few seconds, all i can really remember is an unending stream of profanities that would make a construction worker blush. i checked my fingers to see how bad it was and saw blood pouring out of the ring finger on my right hand. the middle and pinky got a little smashed, but the ring finger caught the brunt of it. i immediatley thought to myself "Okay, this is bad" i kept direct pressure on it while i looked aroung for my Project manager who was walking around in the drydock moments before my moment of stupidity. i checked my finger again and the skin kind of peeled back a little. i looked into the cut and saw bone. yeah, bone. then i though "Okay, this is really bad" i caught up to my Project Manager and told him what had happened. while he went to get the van, i took a seat at the smoking area. for some reason, i thought i could make my way to the bathroom to clean the wound even though i was feeling extremely light headed. i was almost to the door when my legs gave out and my vision went all white. i didn't lose consciousness, but i couldn't see and i couldn't walk. i fell over into the wall and jacked up my left arm pretty good too. i'm sure it looked great to the casual observer. not my most graceful moment. so i got to the clinic and got worked on by a PA, not even a doctor. i almost punched him in the head while he gave me the epi before the lidocaine. that shit hurt worse than the actual injury. so 9 stitches later, here i am on my day off. i thought i'd share and show some pics of what not to do to your finger...

i lost quite a bit of blood. it severed that vein that runs down the finger...
when i got to the clinic, there were all these little kids running around and there i am, looking like i just murdered someone with my bare hands. i tried to cover up my hands as best as i could so the kids wouldn't freak out...

i got 2 prescriptions, one for Keflex (antibiotic) and one for Lorcet (painkiller). haven't taken the painkiller yet cause honestly, i'm not in that much pain...

lmao I knew that would get a rise outta ya.

Just remember not to do what I did the last time I accidentally got drunk and accidentally rode my friend's son's trick bmx and accidentally chased a dog on it and accidentally smashed in to his house and accidentally split my knee, arm, and shin wide open. Do NOT go down to the St. Clair river in Port Huron/Sarnia, and accidentally drink more beer, and accidentally stick your knee and shin in the river, accidentally thinking because you're accidentally drunk that it will clean out the wounds.

My shin & knee were infected for about 3 weeks. rofl

And when I went to the emerg finally about 2 weeks in to the infection, the doctor looked at me like I was a tard, and said "You were drunk, weren't you. This knee should have had about 20 stitches."

I still have the scars on my arm & left knee from that debacle.

Oh yeah. One last thing. That was the day I won our rodeo at work, a truck driver's driving competition. 2001.

Dude. It was amazing. We went to a company sponsored boat ride up and down the St.Clair river after the competition. I had already been pounding back the beer on the boat, since the guys (15 other drivers + friends & my boss) were buying me beers left & right for winning the rodeo. After that we went back to my co-driver's house with a few other drivers and their wives to party some more. Beautiful summer day. So I'm wearing shorts and a tank top, and decide to pull the aforementioned stunt on the bike.

The wives, while berating me, filled my wounds with that foamy bactine shit or whatever the fuck, and then a friend rinsed that out with the garden hose, so at that point I was good to go, even without stitches. Had I kept it clean I probably woulda been all right.

But ofc then someone decided to go down to a friend's boat on the river, at which point I decided to stick my leg and shin in the river, thinking in my drunken stupor that it would clean the still-6 hours later-bleeding wounds.

Of course, everyone else being hammered thought this was a great idea too. Or was too distracted by all the booby flashing going on on the boat. lol



How was I accidentally drunk? I probably drank 20 or 30 beers that day, and never bought a one. That's my story and I'm sticking to it. lmao
