Beater car
My neighbor two houses down is fixing a few things on a 1990 Toyota Camry, 4cyl, Auto. He told me he'd sell it to me for $1000. With the way gas prices are going I just want something for work and b.s errands. Has anyone owned of of these or knows someone. Thanks

Yeah, I've got an '89 Camry, though mine's an AllTrac (AWD, only made for 3 years)
The 4 cylinder is a 3S-FE, 2.0L DOHC ~115 hp, swapping it out for the 2.2L 5S-FE (~140hp) is brainless. If you get it, make DAMN sure the plugs are NGKs and the wires are factory Toyota.

my mom had a 92 camry but had the v6. it ran for about 240-260 and her b.f. blew it up not watching the gauges when he drove it. we used parts store plugs and wires with no problems.

Get the wires from your local Toyota stealership, they're about $100, but they include the cap. I think it's about another $12 for the rotor. They'll last for over 150k miles, though, so it's worth it.
The only thing to watch out for is the non turbo S-block motors have a known issue with oil starvation under hard acceleration/braking/cornering. I don't think it will be a problem for you though with a stock 3S

cool thanks guys. If I get it I'm gonna change the plugs, wires, cap & rotor, oil & oil filter, fuel & air filter. Just so I know some of the important stuff is up to date

With gas prices going the way they are, I say it might be the best $1000 you ever spent.
