Buddy of mine is buying a Nissan 240sx.
Im trying to help him out because he's really excited about it, so I have been looking into turbos and such for it, but I know nothing about nissan.
It's a '92 240sx. Opinions on modding for him? haha. |

The most common "big power" mod is to put an SR20DET in in place of the KA24E or KA24DE that came in the USDM 240s. If you have access to that, you can also look at the RB20DET and RB25DET inline 6 motors.
There's a guy here in NorCal that does 2JZ-GTE swaps if you wanna go absolutely nuts in a cali smog legal fashion. There is no such thing as a stock USDM turbo 240SX, however the SR20 was the engine put in that car in the rest of the world, so it bolts right in. You will have to do some wiring, and you have to find the right tach; for some reason the KA tach won't work. There's GOBs of suspension parts out there, everything from basic replacements to coil-over kits. EDIT: 240s are basically the Mustangs of the import world. Pretty much any mod you can think of can be done to a 240. Plus, they have T5 trannys, too

Right...instead of something logical, such as a v6, v8, straight six, or something along those lines.
They could do that, but NOOOO, they want to go and confuse the white man by throwing in more than 2 symbols. Freakin foreigners. |

You could put a LS1 in it, but you'd need to fab a lot. Me personally, I'd drop in a SR20DET and DO NOT dispose of the stock engine, it being a 2.4L engine, and since it'll have high milage in probable need of a rebuild, he can rebuild the engine with forged, low compression pistons and turbo it, it will be expensive, but if he desires mor power and reaches the limit of the SR20DET, the KA24DE having .4L more than the SR20 will end up with a bit more potential... of course, this is my plan, just in case I end up throwing a rod on the SR20 if I go a bit to boost happy on it. He could go for broke and drop in a RB25DET engine in it (simpler, less expensive than the RB26DETT, but not by much). RB26DETT is another option, but the fab work and money involved is rediculous.
