now its not 40 but still thats damn good for a sporty v8

This concerns ''More Miles per Gallon'' (letter, Aug. 12) by Michael McCloskey, Sierra Club chairman, about Senator Richard H. Bryan's bill to mandate improvement in automobile ''efficiency'': Improvement in the efficiency of a 4.5 litre automobile engine to 40 miles a gallon is beyond the limit of the technology of the automobile industry, not to mention thermodynamics. Unfortunately, neither the members of the Sierra Club nor Congress understand thermodynamics; and automobile manufacturers will not reduce the size of their engines until they are forced to.
Outside the United States, where gasoline cost more than a dollar a gallon 30 years ago, automobile engines are much smaller. Further -and most important - every advanced country except the United States taxes engine size above two litres. This tax is graduated, so that larger cars are more heavily taxed. It is imperative that such a tax be adopted in the United States.
This tax should be graduated so that cars with displacement above, say, 4.5 litres would double in price. The automobile industry, however, emphasizes only size and acceleration - and both of those selling points contribute severely to gasoline consumption.

i'm trying to find the tax that they were trying to pass i think a while back about taxing the size of your engine.
but i cant find it

anyone know what i'm talking about?
i think it was somewhere in washington state or something

lot of people ferrari, GM, do a search for it through wikipedia you might find more
