FWD Cobra?!?

Okay so I was at work today just b.s. talkin' new camero vs. new mustang when one of the guys asks me if my car was a FWD and he was actually serious! lol, apparently not a car guy.

That made my day. Well I got to thinking, has there ever been a FWD car made in the US with a V8? I'm not that familiar with older cars 'cause I'm a young guy, so maybe there has been?

I thought the old El Dorado had a V8 in it and that was FWD but I could be wrong. I doubt we'd ever see an eight cylinder that's not RWD these days. Just no market for that I guess...

Well, a lot of the people that like FWD are the tuner guys and most of them seem to think that all v8s are extremely innefficient compared to their 4 cylinders. Atleast thats the comeback I always got when one of them at my old school would hear me talking about a v8 car.

im pretty sure there hasnt been a v8 FWD... 4WD, but not FWD

just so you know, thats no excuse not to be farmiliar with older cars...but hey, whatever floats you boat

Hey yeah you're right... the newer ss models have fwd platforms, I had no idea. My brother in law has a 2000 monte #24 jeff gordon edition (believe me I give him crap for that car, lol it's quick tho) but it's a RWD v8 so I figured they've all gotta be the same.. my bad I guess.

Jesse - it's not like I don't know about older cars... I respect 'em that's for sure, but when you're not a 3rd generation racer and you can't afford to put enough $ into them to make them run on our highways safely, it's tough to get into that era car you know? I'd still love to own one... a Boss 429 would fit nicely in my future garage lol. But in the meantime it's all modular for me

yupp the (96-98) Taurus SHO's have V8s and they are FWD. but they are also Tauruses! lol

cadilac makes 90% of their v8 cars fwd i know i had a mid 90's cadi v8 fwd definatley interesting

Cadillac Allanté

And many many more...

FWD V-8's have been around for 40+ years...

It was the first I believe...The el dorado has ALWAYS been FWD...

Yeah but those are 3.8L V6s, not V8s.

96-99 Taurus SHO's had 3.4L V8s & a FWD drivetrain.

Auroras had 4.0L V8s & a FWD drivetrain.

As stated previously, a lot of Cadillac's V8s are FWD layouts too.
