Ok so, today i work on a local automotive shops accounting pc, The owners Daughter brought in.

when she arrived she knew nothing about the issue he was having said he would call me to say what the problem was. So part way though the work order i explained to her that if she could call him to get the problem it would be much appreciated. So the owner of the shop and the pc calls and explains that the pc had froze and upon reboot, was getting the dreaded blue screen of death. He explained to me that he was a local business owner and that payroll was today and he needed it back ASAP. so i was in a good mood i said im not very busy today ill look at it right away at standard labor rate instead of priority. to do the guy a favor. He was pleased.

So i look at his pc, fire it up sure enough he was correct in his explanation, fine i shut it down and check the Components for physical damage, with my eyes as well as hardware diagnostic software and tests. Sure enough Physically it checked out but the ram horrible failed the Software testing.

So i shut it down, Remove and replace the ram boot it up fix his Partition error, give it the once over do his virus updates and call it mission accomplished.

NOW this is where the situation gets shit on and i end up with a bad taste in my mouth.

I call the gentleman and I use this term VERY loosely. and explain to him what was wrong how i was pleased it was a quick fix and how he was in business again, explained the cost, even gave him a break on labor because i was in a good mood like i said. He explained that his daughter would be picking it up and asked if we except credit cards. i said "yes, of course we do sir, as long as she is the card holder." then he explained that she was not. so i said, "im sorry but im looking out for my best interest, yours and your daughters you'll have to be the one to come in if you want to use that credit card." so the guy starts to get pissy with me and says "can i give you my number over the phone." i replied No sir store policy im sorry nore would i feel comfortable taking your information over the phone, again i feel the safest way is for you to come in your self if you wish to use that card." so he calls me an idiot and asks me the total and i give it to him with the taxed amount. end of conversation.

15 minutes later he shows up, says he is only paying his daughter is picking it up because he was on his bit i said no problem sir, ill leave the invoice whit the pc so when she comes there is no confusion. He gives me his credit, i swipe it through checked his name take and caught an eye shot of his drivers license as he took the card out i also recognized the voice. after he signed the invoice i said to verify sir that was visa correct he said yest i finished the invoice and have it to him.

This is where a 45-50 yr old man looks like an idiot. k so pull up a chair.

As soon as i hand him the receipt he starts picking a fight with me saying how i could have just let his daughter singe i didn't check his signature started making a huge scene receded to call me an idiot in front of my boss co workers and customers. i let him finish belittling me and then i had my reply. at this point im having a bad day and what i want to say is inappropriate for the general public. so i replied as pleasently as i could. i said "sir, its store policy for the card holder to be here in person, im not going to jeopardize my job for the likes of you. no i did not check your signature however your name tag and your drivers license i saw matches the visa, yes i did ask you if it was a visa again i like to be sure everything is correct so how dare you make a comment on how i didn't even know what card your using. i gave you the benefit of the doubt seein as i just spoke with you and didnt feel the need to further aggravate the situation by asking you for id. Im only looking out for my best interest yours and your daughters. your asking her to commit fraud by signing your name. i cannot knowing let her do that im sorry. her name is clearly not john. its kind of bad that a 20 yr old is showing more respect then a person of your age. your a business man im surprised at your attitude and the respect you give yo your fellow merchant, or should i say lack there of. so i hope it makes you feel good to make a scene in this store over nothing. nice way to represent your business, very professional. so i hope you feel like a big man, when u clearly are looking to pick a fight. with a 20 yr old at that, especially in a situation that should clearly not be a big deal. so how should we deal with this. how about i refund you money, and ill put your computer back to a damaged state. i don't feel you deserve the more then satisfactory service ive provided to you. how about that?" he replied "well i need my computer now.


So i walked over to the door opened it up at this time daughter was there and i said "here is the door im giving you a chance to leave with some dignity and not make this situation something it does not need to be, i hope you feel better about your self with the scene you just caused in front of ever one one and i hope you feel like a bigger man because u feel that u got the one up on some kid trying to make a living. Im sorry you feel the way you do have a nice day sir."

His daughter apologizes to me takes his pc he leaves revs the shit out of his bike like the child he is and takes off up the street.

SO FUCK i wish i could have told him to fuck right off, what the fuck is peoples deal these days how the fuck do i deserve this bullshit. why do i get less respect because im half your age and why the fuck am i more mature then a 45-50 year old man. these are questions I SHOULD NOT HAVE TO ASK PEOPLE ITS THE 21ST CENTRY WE ARE SUPPOSED TO BE EVOLVING NOT DEVOLVING! RESPECT IS EARNED NOT AQQUIRED BY AGE! And I feel ive fuckin earned it in this situation. So this is to every one who thinks they are better then some one els. You don’t know me you don’t know them so fuck you. Go piss up a fucking rope you fuckin wanker.

Having worked in computer repair, I totally feel for the situation.

Based on what I read, I would say that you handled that situation the best you could, and ended up with the best result possible. You have a customer that got better service than they paid for, you looked responsible and calm in the face of someone being an ass, and if you "lost" a customer, it was one you don't want anymore anyway.

The true test will be if he comes back

i think you handled it pretty good. i used to work at arby's man, and all i can tell you is just treat people with respect and hopefully they will do the same.. i always said yes sir no mam to all the customers 100% of the time, and 99% of the time i got the same thing in return, but there will ALWAYS, and i mean ALWAYS be people who are assholes, no matter how you treat them. it's life, might as well start getting used to it now
